I'm a weird sleeper

I'm such a weird sleeper, sleeping all day and staying up all night. About a year ago, I got out of that habit, and going to bed early then get up with the kids on the normal school time and stay up all day. I even lost some weight that way! :-) Now the holidays threw me off. I went back into my old pattern of sleeping weird, even sleeping more than usual just to escape the holidays. I just love the bed, the warm coziness of pillow, blanket, and sheets, the luxury of dreaming all kinds of funny, silly dreaming, the escape from real life drama. The reason why I preferred my nocturnal lifestyle is because I loved the peace and quiet in my flat while I worked quietly at my computer or did housework, or whatever. I really do need to go back on schedule again now that school's in, and doctor's appointments are back in full swing.....hoooooooooooooo boy. I wonder if I'm the only abnormal sleeper :-p

Hi Masihi; It is so easy to get into the nocturnal lifestyle, especially computer user types. I find that, as an artist, sometimes I am prone to being up way past my normal bed time. It is the peaceful quietness that draws me to those hours. Knowing that there are not going to be any interruption is the big thing. Hours can pass as one begins to indulge in whatever it is that is demanding their full attention. Unfortunately or is that fortunately? In any case, my pup is very demanding of my presence now a days. She will not go to bed if I am still up. She will crash for a bit but if I am not in bed before say mid night she is up looking for me, pawing at me wondering what the heck? As we have gotten into a regular routine where sleeping for the night happens at a regular hour and is always before midnight. I haven't been able to pull an all nighter for the past few years, since I acquired my little dog. I can assure you however, from experience, the best way to get over the nocturnal lifestyle is to stay up for 24 hours. It works. The next day just go to bed at a regular hour. Normally one will sleep then, helping get back to a normal up in the day and sleep at night routine. Wishing you well and All the Very Best to you and yours for 2011 & always!

Lol Masihi, Not sure if this had anything to do with this discussion and my answering of it but that night I was up until 3:30 a.m. ... :0 Cleaning my place.... Of all things. Was bit tired the next day when I woke five and a half hours later. All caught up and back on regular routine now. Glad you had a good nights sleep and that that schedule may stick with you for awhile anyway ;) Also, it is a good tip, to break the nocturnal habit to stay up for a full 24 hours. Wishing you well.

i think everybody has their own lifestyles and preferences... some prefer night life and some prefer morning life... me myself is a morning person and that's why i can't sleep too late at night... it is because i have to wake up every morning to send my hubby to work... :-) but if you are more comfortable with a night life and it suits you better, then go for it... take care and have a nice day...

I don't even know what normal sleep is anymore. Apparently I will need some type of sound proof sleep chamber if that is going to happen. I just wish I could get at least 6 hours of UNINTERUPTED sleep! I usually like to go to bed between 11PM and Midnight. My husband gets home from work any time between 11PM and 1AM, so its pointless to try and sleep before that. He has to eat and unwind and is usually up until 3AM. So I get woke up when he comes in. He always forgets to put the cats out (we have 4), so unless I want one jumping on my head in 45 mins to go out I have to get up and check. Those little buggers are on to me now, they hide! So after I try and go back to sleep, and get all snuggled in, mew....meew....MEOW. Darn it! I thought they were all out, where did you come from AAAARRGH, so I let that one out, then another one will usually run IN and hide! I have started putting the broom in the way to prevent this. OK now its probably about 4:30AM or so....snugle back in, just to hear little footsteps walking toward my room "mom, mom are you sleeping?" Me sleeping? NO I'm a robot, robots never sleep. So I tell him to go to the bathroom and I'll tuck you back in, and I listen to the fact he can't sleep or had a bad dream etc. and watch him drift back to sleep. By now its around 5:30 or 6AM. Once again, I try to sleep. Rattle, rattle (doorknob) What the heck is that noise? Is someone breaking in? No, its the cats! they have made a kitty pyramid and one is trying to turn the knob! (I think they take turns jumping at the knob to make it open)...So I get up, pour some food on the porch, the hidden ones runs out of the house, I count four of them and slam the door. Yay, that should be it, aaaahhhhhh, finally. RRRRRRrrring!!! Nope, now its 8AM, time to get Billy ready for school. 45 min later he's on the bus and gone. All the cats are out, hubby sleeping, now I can sleep til 11AM. Any later than that is pointless, phone calls, neighbor noise, my moms voice in my head "Only lazy people sleep in the day". But anyway, that is my typical sleep (or lack of) pattern.

You are not alone, I am also a weird sleeper that is why my mama got angry with me. I feel so active when the sun goes down and I feel sleepy every morning. I do household chores every night even washing clothes. But when I got busy I am back to normal. one more thing, I'm also dreaming unbelievable things like I am a superhero or even a killer at my own dream.

I am a terrible sleeper. I am one to stay up late and get up really early it is repetitively for weeks on end. I find I can accomplish more if I stretch the day out more. Not a good thing as I find I am tried all the time. But getting to bed early or at a reasonable time causes me to think about what I did not accomplish throughout the day.
