Homework is a form of enrichment or remedial work. I found out that two of my students are not doing their homework. At first I was pissed off but slowly I cooled down myself. These two boys are a little bit slow in grasping the new knowledge. But to be fair I have to punished them. I asked them to stand for 30 minutes in the class. Do you think I am a bad person?

Seems a bit harsh but then it is like a 30 minute time out. I suppose if you continued punishing this way eventually they will get the message that either do the homework or dread the punishment. It has to be consistently done in order for it to work though. Just wondering what is the age group of the children in the class??

I have to punish them because I do not want to tell the rest of the class that it is okay be a slow learner because teacher will not punish them. The children are 12 years old. In term of rewarding, yes I do reward them. Reward is for students that doing good/being good students etc. It is not for laziness etc.

I think it is an excellent idea to utilize as that was my first thought is that if it is okay that some get away with the constant not doing homework then others will follow. The reason I mention consistency is so that if you continue to do it others will certainly not dare slack as they will not want to dread the punishment and embarrassment either. Thanks for caring, it takes caring people to instill punishment when in reality you are helping them learn discipline. My hats off to you.

it's already ordinary for teachers to punish their students... but in a more creative way of disciplining those 2 boys can help them encourage to study.. like having a reward... :)
