What has our society become with the way we act towards the PS3?!

We've all seen the craziness instilled with the new PS3. There has been everything from stampedes to people sleeping over at WalMart stores for literally 24+ hours! There was even one person SHOT when they came out of the store with their PS3! What has our society become when we put this much importance on a freaking game system? And as if that's not enough, people are paying the $600 for the big system and not even batting an eye for that price!
