Hi everyone, I am seriously considering teaching abroad ( in a Spanish speaking country). Have you ever done this? Did you get a TEFL or CELTA certificate? Did you find a job that paid your bills at home while you were out of country? What about animals. How hard is it to get a pet visa? Is the travel easy on your pet (in my case a dog). I graduated college last May, and still do not have a teaching job, so I think I want to teach abroad for a year and hopefully become bilingual after working in a Spanish speaking country for a year. If you have done this please tell me about your experience, the good and the bad!

Hey jess: Would you consider my beautiful country Puerto Rico? The main language is Spanish and of course the second is English. Most of the schools teach the classes in Spanish, except, of course for the English class. We are "american territory" so, you and your dog won't need visa or passport and you will be pay in dollars. I don't know so much about the requirements or details for teaching abroad but I just think that maybe Puerto Rico will be a good option for you. Good luck!

Hi Jess. One of my friends did a degree in the History of Art. Then she did a TEFL Certificate. She worked as an English teacher in Spain, Poland and Russia. I am a primary school teacher in my home country. It is possible to get a pet passport. To get that you dog will have to be micro chipped, have a rabis vaccination. Then 6 months later a blood test to get the passport. I think that going to Spain, Central America like Guatemala or South America like Colombia would be lovely for a one year teaching English job.

I had taught in China ESL. I only have TESOL which I took in my country. But I do believe that TEFL and CELTA are an additional points for you. CELTA is good if you want to teach adults TEFL is for both younger students and adults too. The pay is quite good. I think paying bill back home depends on the country you are from. I am from Asia that is why I can say the wage can pay my bills back home.

I think you have very nice thoughts about your coming life. Teaching is tough and interesting task. I think many people do this to earn the extra money. I have heard about the Odesk where people post the jobs like this. . First you have to apply for the job there and then when you are accepted you can start working. It is a very good platform to start if you want to start.

Oh, I have also wanted to learn about speaking Spanish. Then I went to Mexico and started to teach Math there. While I was there I learned Spanish and I was getting paid for that. TEFL is what I got. And I also was paying my bills back at home with my family. I also was bringing a cat, but everything went smoothly and I got to Mexico without any problems.
