Why alcohol is forbidden?

I know that drinking alcohol is forbidden, but I do not understand what causes the drinking of alcohol is banned but can make a drunk. then how to measure? what is true in any minimal levels, drinking alcohol is still banned? please help, because I want to be able to answer if someone asked why alcohol is forbidden. not only 'know' drinking alcohol is prohibited.
