Parenting is for your life. We all wish that we had children that did exactly what we think or what society thinks they should do. We expect certain things from our children. I know from experience that when your child does something that you know could harm them or that they should not be doing as a parent you are devastated. I was reading a very interesting article about how we americans live in a society now where we are rewarding our children even when they do bad. They spend way to much time on computers or games etc. Parents are way to busy working to try and make ends meet to pay attention to what their children are really doing. The final product is our children are killing people. They are not performing in school as they should and too many children are falling through the cracks. I read the new and sit back and wonder where the heck this world is going. I say take your kids under control. Be the parent and yes they should fear your consequence if they make a bad choice. Make the schools accountable for educating your children. I work and I make sure my children are doing the correct thing. If they make a bad choice then the have a bad consequence. I look for all signs of drugs or any thing else my children try and get away with. It is a hard job parenting correctly and if you do not want to do it correctly then use birth control pills. Your life probably was not all fuzzy and warm so stop trying to make your childrens life all fuzzy and warm. Hold them accountable.

I agree with you, and I agree that the cause is all this working 24/7 absentee parenting. We work so hard because we feel like bad parents if our children don't have THINGS, but the end result is that they don't have PARENTS! Kids need good role models, guidance, and correction, until they are grown. No stuff will ever replace those valuable lessons. It would be better if we could all do without a few things (television, the latest games) and instead work less, stay home more, and actually spend time with our children.
