Do men need fewer vegetables than women?

Babies like vegetables, small children seem not to so much though many seem to like one or two specific ones. But it doesn't take too many years for a difference to show - men stereotypically don't like vegetables. They want hunks of meat and bread, maybe cheese too. I haven't heard of any studies that show men's bodies require less (relatively according to size of course) of the nutrients vegetables provide. So why do men so often shun vegetables? Is this an American thing or do people in other countries notice this as well? My son (26) just told me, "See, when I look at a plate of vegetables, I don't ever think, "Oh yum, food! What I think is, Oh, nice scenery." He considers them a colorful plate decoration!
