Does the Jets belong to New Jersey or New York ?

This has always been something that I wondered. I know that the Jets originated from brooklyn but they practice and play in New Jersey. So are they a New Jersey team or are they a New York team. Mayor Bloomberg and Chris Christie have been battling this for the past couple of days but what is the real answer. If the Jets win the superbowl does the trophy go to New Jersey or New York.
