My six year old Shih Tzu gave birth only once when she was three. A year after that I took in two young kittens barely weaned. After a few days of feeding them with milk, I noticed that my dog became fond of them, the threesome sleeping together. I was amazed one morning to find the kittens sucking from her. I squeezed the teats and found out that there was actually milk in them. this was repeated again after another year with an orphaned kitten that could barely eat.

I think your dog, allowing those kittens to suck from her teats stimulated the glands to secrete milk but her great mother-instinct distributed most.

I've searched the web and a quick scan at the results revealed that your case is not remote. It's something really common that went on since time immemorial. The secretion of milk despite the dog not in her lactating period has a scientific explanation. I like your link you started.

I did have a dog that adopted my kitten, my kitten would nurse but the dog never produced milk. I would ask you vet maybe they might know. But it is very common for a female dog to adopt so to say other baby animals and mother them it is just in their nature. Growing up we had a female do that had never had puppies and was fixed but every time our other dog had puppies she became their baby sitter and would try to nurse them but again never actually produced milk. I hope you find your answer you are looking for.
