The hail storm outside is driving my cats nuts!!

Even though it is winter here, we just had a massive hail storm in the middle of our all-day snow storm. My two younger cats, the 1-year-old and the 9-month old kitten, are being driven absolutely crazy by the hail. They are tearing through the house, meowing their heads off, knocking things over, bolting from room to room, and generally having fits. Now, as kittens, they often have periods of the "crazies" but I have never seen them like this. Do your pets go berserk during storms, and how do you comfort them--especially when you can't even catch them?!

I haven't seen mine with a big hail storm, so I don't really know, but most of them just ignore outside noises unless its close to the house windows, then it depends on if they perceive it as threat or prey... except Scamp, he's afraid of everything!

I'm not sure if they afraid or excited--I kind of think they are excited, and are using this as an excuse to trash the house!

After Taj spent a week in the tree he was afraid of thunderstorms for a while, but after a year even that passed... but he is more dependent on me than he was before the event.

My dog was looking out the window when it was hailing and thunderstorming. She was barking at the lightning too. She's not used to seeing lightning in the winter time.

I'm not either! But I think it was the huge pieces of hail that really freaked them out.

Haha, I remember the time my cat was less than one year old and he was outside on fourth of July. That was something. The booming fireworks made him go crazy!!! His fur was sticking up and his eyes were big and scared. After I caught him I just brought him inside the house and that calmed him down.

Yes, they can really puff up their fur when they get scared, can't they? My kittens eventually calmed down enough to be cuddled, but not before they knocked EVERYTHING off the tables, counters, shelves--what a mess!
