Hi friends!!! In my country, compared to the past women are getting good education and they are capable of standing in their own legs....Managing their lifestyle without a male support is kind of easy these days......But still there is lot more left for India to improve....Women are no longer under the shadow of men...Do you feel that theere is already an improvement or still it is a long way to go???

well i would say, yes we do live in a male chauvinist country.Women are not being respected in india and i say this cause women are quite hesitant to go to places where there is a big crowd of men. also, all the unnecessary comments and lewd stares follow where ever you go right!? so that's your answer :) i think Mahatma Gandhi said that our country would be safe the day a woman walks alone on the streets at night time

Yes, most society's in the world are still male dominated. While women are beginning to move from under the shadow of men, there is still much to be done. The inequalities and chauvism has become institutionalized over the past thousands of years and it has become a part of our societies. Yours and mine. Do you know what i find most disturbing? The fact that many woman continue to accept the dominance of males even in countries where equal rights are supposedly protected by law. Social and individual gender expectations continue to put women under the thumb of men. I live in America and i see this every day. I have a married couple with no children living next door to me. Both leave together each morning to go to work and get home at about the same time. When the man gets home he sits down to watch television or sits outside and mingles with other neighborhood men. His work is done for the day. The woman comes home after a hard day's work to cook, straighten up, prepare both of their clothing for the next day etc. She says she enjoys doing it. Isn't this encourage the gender inequalities that woman today seem to detest? Studies here show that in high level executive positions, women are earning almost 25% less then men in the same positions. In my opinion, real change will come when both men and women begin to accept women's equality and work together to make the changes necessary. And so you see, while there has been some improvement, there is still a long way to go.
