Manish Pandey - The Enigma

Manish Pandey - Manish Pandey is a budding cricketer from India. he plays for Karnataka state in the domestic circuit.

Manish is a right handed aggressive batsman. He shot into limelight when he became the first indian to score a century in the IPL season 1

Manish Pandey has made a habit of being in the news for both wrong & right reasons. After becoming the first Indian to score a century in IPL, he went back to average performances in the ranji trophy. We again heard about him when his manager started bargaining with IPL teams, with total disregard for the rules set by IPL governing council. Yesterday, in duleep trophy, when all his famous team mates failed; Manish scored a fluent Double Century in 190 balls. To add to his batting exploits, he fielded & caught brilliantly. This brings us back to some of the old questions ? Is instant fame & Money of IPL actually ruining the careers of many budding cricketers ? Is BCCI interested only in policing rather than grooming cricketers for success ? I certainly do want to see this talented youngster banned from IPL !

Hi Srijshm! I can understand your point of view. But I have to disagree on some points. Mainly, Manish has not broken any rules. If Rayudu can play for Mumbai even though he is from AP. Manish can play for Pune though he is from Karnataka. It is BCCI which makes the rules. But itself didn't follow rules regarding FEMA and got a notice from Court and IT department. So these guys do have any moral right to question players? And if anyone has to be banned from IPL it is Srinivasan of CSK. He is holding many posts in BCCI and Tamilnadu Cricket. And he acts as both CSK owner and BCCI official. This is really not right. And he will also be having inside information which other team owners can't have. But no action has been taken about this conflict of interest. He may justify it by some internal BCCI rules but Ethically he is not right. IPL is not ruining any upcoming players, actually it is motivating them to perform better. yes there are some players who think that by playing IPL they can secure their financial condition for future. But that can be said wrong. As everyone needs to take care of their financial planning too. And one more point is there is no restriction for foreign uncapped players but for Indian uncapped players it is there. How can you justify this rule? And RCB hasn't shown any loyalty to the players like CSK has done. RCB didn't try to keep the players and took decisions only on business sense and money based. So why should Manish need to be loyal to RCB? As far as I am concerned, Manish has done no wrong to get banned from IPL. Otherwise by now BCCI would have been acted on his case. Happy Mylotting!

There was an error in a paragraph. But that can be said wrong. This should have been. But that can not be said wrong.

Hi Wismay, Appreciate your whole hearted support for Cricketers. The focus of cricket should be on the game rather than the board. Sadly this is not the case in Indian Cricket. Hopefully other former cricketers will take a cue from Kumble & Co and take up administrative roles. I fully agree with your views on disparity of rules for Uncapped players from India & International uncapped players. Sadly, it seems that despite all this manish will get punished. Mallya has too much clout to let Manish go !

Hi Srijshm, I think, you said it right. Focus should be the game and not Board or its officials. It is sad that in India, most of the times, politicians, businessmen and officials go unpunished even after making grave wrong doings but other individuals get punished for even a small mistake. Regards!

I saw his innings and was quite impressed. But I have seen many players who have played such knocks in domestic cricket but fail to impress on the international stage. Performance in IPL cannot be used for selection in national team. Even Ravindra Jadeja promised so much but was not able to perform in ODIs. Pandey is technically good. But he needs to keep working and wait for his chance. Cheteshwar Pujara is more technically sound than Pandey and shows more composure which is suitable for test cricket. Senior players and coaches should work to develop these players and not let them carried away in success and fame.

Ah ! i was hoping that someone brings Ravindra Jadeja into the discussion. After all the similarities are too hard to miss. Poor Jadeja is in IPL hibernation. His fault ????? - trying to negotiate a job + IPL contract with a new franchisee. I do agree that Pujara is a far better player than Manish. Pandey can bid his time & work on improving his game even more.

Manish Pandey is really a talented cricketer. Despite scoring century in I.P.L, he is not bang bang type cricketer. He is technically perfect player and tipped to succeed Rahul Dravid in tests. But getting the attention, popularity and money at so early an age really spoil the youngsters and drive them away from their main goal which earns them the rewards. I am not sure whether B.C.C.I. should prevent such players from participating in I.P.L.. It is after all the self discipline and understanding that these players should show in their own interest if they can't then they do not deserve to be there. If Sachin Tendulkar is this great to day it is because of the self discipline that he imposed on himself otherwise he would have lost long time back like his equally talented compatriots.

Hi MSDivkar, You stole the words from my lips. I feel the same for this youngster. BCCI can have counselors for young players & recommended managers to help budding cricketers have a balanced growth.
