It's completely up to you what you decide to do, no one can make that choice for you. However, it's better to go with a driving instructor, you have a better chance of passing it this way, as the examiner sees that you have had professional instruction in the past. We have a graduated system here where I am, you have to take 2 different road tests in order to get your license. Unfortunately, I've learned the hard way how difficult it can be to pass it on the first try. I've been licensed for almost 6 years, yet I'm still in the system, partially because of letting my license expire, and partially because I've failed a few times. 2005 was when I passed my first written test. I took a course that cost me far too much money. I then failed my first road test, the city driving test, before I even got out of the parking lot. I jumped a curb in the lot, but the examiner let me finish. When I redid it a few weeks later, I passed it. I didn't understand the concept of this program, and as such, I let my license expire. Thankfully, the examiners had gone on strike in the summer, so I was able to grab a road test due to that. This was the highway test, and I did it last August. I was nervous, driving a rental car, doing my highway test out of a center with the highest failure rate. I was told that if I failed, I'd have to start all over again, but could fast track through it due to my license being expired for less than a year. So I booked my first road test for November, but had to postpone, I didn't have a safe vehicle to drive. I tried to postpone it again this month, but found I was too late to do so. I got a friend of mine to rent a car, then I went for my road test, which I passed. I was pleased about that, and now I have to think about my final road test, which is next month. I booked this one for out of the city, it should be easier to pass it since the town I'm going to doesn't have a major highway. I'll be renting another vehicle for this, and will do some highway driving prior to going for the test. Hopefully I'll pass it, I really need to get my full license. Afterall, it's been almost 6 years and I should have had it a long time ago.
