Suddenly when I try my browser

to get to a specific site, it reroutes to something totally unrelated. Sounds to me like I have a virus, but my virus detector says I'm clean. What else could be the problem?

Sounds to me like it is something wrong with the website. Or while your virus software might be blocking any nasties, the website is compromised in some form or fashion. I would tend to be careful around that website. Or it could be that website might have been taken down for some reason. So it could be any number of things when you think about it.

At the moment, I've switched Browsers and am having less problems. But, I've noticed if I forget and use the old one, I go everywhere except the place I'm looking for. I'm keeping it only because my calendar is on it and I have dates set until the end of the year on it. Gradually, I'll change over to another calendar, too. Thank you, megamatt, for the advice.

It could be a number of things, but it would help to know what browser? What AV you are using? What website(s) is causing the problem?

I am unfamiliar with the Chrome browser, but a search revealed that some unwanted redirects have been caused by certain Linksys routers... if you are using one? I see you have a techie friend going to check it out, so that's good and hopefully, the problem will be solved. But an added note and for future reference, you can disable automatic redirects in Chrome and other browsers. (But be aware, disabling meta-refresh may cause some websites to work incorrectly.) Here's a tute: http://tinyurl.com/4ph6gpj (BTW, I tinyurl'ed it so I could C&P the URL. Still sub-500, but working on it.)

ok so one of the problems (like you said) could be that you have a virus. a lot of times virus software wotn catch these kinds of viruses. or another thing is that you have redirecting on in your inter net settings. to change these setting you can go to support.microsoft.com/kb/310116 and they tell you all of the information you need.

Hi bionation. I think I'll have a friend who's a techie check it out. When it gets to the support areas, I'm not as educated as I should be. Thank you for the hint. Maggie
