Indonesia has lots of cities and islands that worth to be visited. As an Indonesian, I am ashamed has only visited only few of them until now. As of now, I visited only Bandung, Yogyakarta, Malang, Bali, and Medan. I still like Medan the most, maybe because it is my parents hometown and has amazing food. What city have you visited? Any recommendation city or island that need to be visited?

I'd love to see some of the natural areas. You guys have so many unique plants and animals that aren't found anywhere else in the world.

Yes indeed, our country is only second to Brazil in its plants and animals variety. Unfortunately in both of these countries the forestry are heavily threatened by illegal loggings and irresponsible theft by the citizen and foreigners. I just hope we can conserve these conflicted area with rich potentials

Well, you are more fortunate than I. I want to visit Medan, Aceh, Padang, Balikpapan, Palangkaraya, Ambon, Manado and Jayapura. I visited Bandung, Jakarta, Surabaya and Lombok for now. Like you, I want to visit as many islands in Indonesia as possible cause each of them is unique and that they made our country, Indonesia. However, considering the cost to travel in Indonesia, sometimes I got frustrated. Often it is much cheaper to travel overseas than to travel within Indonesia, especially now that fiscal is canceled for all Indonesians. Do you know that to have a week holiday in Bangkok costs the same as having a week holiday in Lombok island?

That's true! Sometimes even cities that are supposed to be more cheaper than Jakarta ends up very expensive like Papua. I hear prices are crazily expensive there because all the goods were taking an awful lot of time to be shipped and costs a lot because of the long distance. Especially these days when travelling outside the country are far cheaper than in 1990s with budget airlines having price cuts on the flight tickets, it is much cheaper spending holiday in Bangkok or Ho Chi Minh where the price are generally the same or even cheaper than Jakarta. I would like to see the government pushes travelling around Indonesia cheaper with lots of airlines opening new routes to cities such as Manado or Papua.

I really hope there is a change to the better in all aspects of our country. Cross my fingers on it. But often, I felt nothing would get better with we are facing now. I don't want to elaborate, since it is still my country I am talking about.

Your country is very beautiful and it is called "A Country with Thousands of Islands". Therefore, you have a lot of beautiful and natural beaches which are so attractive for the travelers. I haven't visited your country yet but I am sure one day I love to travel in your country. Bali seems to be quite famous:) I love China

Bali is very famous and attract lots of foreigners coming to the city. It has lots of culture and beautiful beaches. When I went there, majority of the foreigners are Japanese and (lots of) Australians. Other places that are famous are Gili Island at Lombok near Bali for its diving spots and perfect place for party getaway, Yogyakarta for its culture and historic monuments (lots of temple from the 15th-17th century, and Merapi volcano), Manado for its beautiful diving spots and Bunaken National Park, Raja Ampat (I can't afford this one, it's very far from Jakarta and all resorts are on Euro), Komodo Island for its prehistoric animal, the komodo, and Bangka Belitung for its beaches. Like you said, we are very lucky has a lot of islands, yet the government seems to doesn't care develop other tourist spots besides Bali. I hope more and more foreigners come to explore the beauty of this country

I just visited Riau, but not the city since I go to the plantations there. Yogyakarta is a very nice city to travel, lots of culture and history. How was it post Merapi eruption? Has the tourism fully recovered?

Yeah, but it is too expensive to go there since there's few airlines that open the route to go to east Indonesia. Sumatera is more affordable, I would love to go backpacking to those cities, I am sure it will be a very exciting experience

Hi dearlene! Glad to know someone here now all these places around Medan. I know some of the places you mentioned like Kisaran, Siantar (I am a huge fan of Roti Ganda hahaha), and most importantly Tarutung and Balige, because my parents were coming from the city years ago. I really like the atmosphere in the village, everything is so laidback and the weather is less polluted like Jakarta.
