How many people like Mangini? My take is this, he was really good as a DB position coach, Belichick promoted him to defensive coordinator, Mangini blew up Belichick's defense so Mangini gets demoted. Mangini gets upset about that. So as a result of Mangini being from the Belichick tree, he gets hired by the Jets, winning with a team Tony Dungy pretty much had in place, Mangini gets called Mangenius, which quickly falls apart as Mangini puts more of himself into the team. Chaos ensues and he loses control of the team, and you start seeing losses instead of wins. Some players really like him, others can't stand him. The wound Mangini opened up in New York only festers and gets worse till the powers that be in the Jets front offices fire him, but before that hot seat has time to cool, Randy Lerner hires him in Cleveland, giving Mangini full control of headquarters. The same chaos Mangini created in New York follows him to Cleveland, creating a chaotic mess in headquarters, starting with Kokinis. So Lerner says, "enough is enough", and hires Holmgren to take control of headquarters. The fans in Cleveland love that Holmgren is in Cleveland, till he fires Mangini, then most fans want Lerner to fire Holmgren, not realizing that Mangini is solely responsible for Holmgren being there in the first place.

I don't think mangini really got a chance. Holmgren wasn't going to keep him there because mangini wasn't able to do anything with the players he was drafting. A good coach will make do with what he has and the players will rally around him. Look at the giants for example, they won a superbowl with very little.

Good point...but some will say he didn't have a chance...but he gets demoted by Belichick and fired by the Jets also....so there has to be something not right with his coaching abilities.
