How Do You Wash Your Dishes?

When washing dishes after meals how do you do yours? Do you have a Dishwasher and if so, do you rinse the dishes before putting them in the washer? If you wash dishes by hand, do you first fill the sink with water and then wash the dishes? Or do you wash and rinse under the running water? For me I find I like to wash dishes by washing them individually and then running them under the water. I can't stand to wash dishes by filling the sink first and then dunking them into the water.

i usually throw my dishes in the dishwasher and i make it get very full before i run it. if i can, i use paper plates when i eat. i like to just throw them away after using them.

In our household, dishes are washed by hand and we have a simple but strictly implemented process in doing it. Scrape of all food particles left on plates. Glasses always are washed first and pans and pots last. We don't dunk dishes in a sink filled with water. We soap and rinse by groups. Glasses, plates, utensils, and pots and pans.

hi, Beamer. In our home, we do the washing just like what you do. As a child, I have been always assigned in dish washing because I am the only girl that time so I am expert with washing. As you said, the food particles on the plates should be removed then glasses should be the first to be rinsed off, next should be spoon, after that, the plates and bowls. Last should be the pots and pans. We don't use dishwasher because we are not sure of what might be the outcome. It's better to wash manually to check if the stains or food have been washed completely

I agree with you guys, have always washed in the order above, though sometimes I just grab what ever and wash it. Thanks Beamer for refreshing my mrmory about the best way to wash the dishes!

For me I soak what needs to be soaked. And I basically wet a cloth with soap and scrub everything up set aside on the counter and then I rinse everything off when I'm done and put it in the drying rack. In warmer months I rinse the dishes off over a bucket and I then I use the water on my flowers. I used to have a dishwasher but it was a waste between our hard water and having to soak many dishes before putting them in the washer it seemed to be quite a waste of money and time.

True dishwashers usually is a waste of water at times, but I know some people who won't touch a dish and would just pop it in the dish washer

Hi. gtdonna. When we first moved here and we did not have a sink stopper, I would wash dishes one by one. Then I would rinse all of them out. Now that I have a sink stopper, I will put the detergent in the sink. I will fill it up with hot and cold water, then I will put my silverware first and then so on.. I would rather wash them this way, because it does not take as long as me washing them hand by hand.

I do have a dishwasher but I don't put all the dishes in it, I only put the big plate and eating ware in it. I usually hand wash the small dishes and if they are not greasy. So that I save some elcectricity.

Yep dishwashers can make your electricity bills go sky high especially for some people who use it like three times a day

This is an interesting discussion! I don't have a dishwasher first. I wash the dishes by hand. I don't fill yhe sink with water-I wash the dishes one by one, for me this is the easiest way but other people maybe have a different approach in washing the dishes. It depends of the person what approach will choose.

When I wash dishes by hand - usually pots & pans or other things that don't go in the dishwasher - I do it the same way you do. I hate using a sink full of dirty water to wash dishes. I actually know someone who washes them individually and then rinses them off in a sink full of water, so every dish after the first one is being RINSED in dirty water. It drives me nuts! Most everything - plates, bowls, cups, cutlery etc - goes in the dishwasher and I don't usually rinse things first. Unless it's something that I know wont come off (cutlery can be bad) then I just pop it in and it comes out squeaky clean!

I wash the dishes then put them in the dishwasher to get germs and what not off. I do wash dishes and put them to try when they dont fit in the dishwasher or dont belong going in there or even if the dishwasher is full. I never fill the sink with water and then wash the dishes because i feel this is something the odler generation do and your cleaning dishes now in dirty water and then you have silverware down there that can stab you and what not and i just dont feel its sanitary or even good to do. I like putting things in the dishwasher even though im wasting my electric, i feel its better for you and your dishes are now cleaner then what they were when you used them to eat.

I could count on one hand the number of dishwashers I have ever owned. In my house, I am the dutiful dishwasher. I have a sink for washing and one for rinsing, I let them airdry before putting my dishes away. it is a necessary task i can't seem to get away from.

yeah some people do that do...I try to get my hubby to wash dishes more often, but he likes filling the sink with water before he washes

Unfortunately I don't own a dishwasher, so I have to wash my dishes by hand, but I'm the type to wash and rinse under the running water. I think it's dirty to fill the sink and wash all the dishes in that water, as all the dirt falls there, and the first dish might be clean, but not the rest, so I would have to wash them all over again. Also, I'm a quick washer, so running water is the best option for me

I wash by hand. I rinse the dishes, soap them, then rinse them running them under the water. I feel it's cleaner that way. When there are stubborn fat clinging to the plates, I resoap, or dunk them in hot water, resoap then rerinse.

If I have to use fatty foods like bacon, after I am done cooking I instantly run them under hot soapy water, this prevents the fat from congealing and makes it easier to wash.

I wash all the dishes individually and then running them under the water just like you. I can't stand fill up the sink first too. I feel sick about that. And I wash the dishes right after meal, I don't want my sink fill with the dirty dishes.

We wash dishes by hand. First, I rinse them under running water to remove whatever food stuffs can be removed. Then soap them. And then finally, rinse them again under running water to remove the soap. I don't like dunking them in water either.

I think that's the best way to wash them, by hand. It is not that I do not mind using a dish washer, but dishwashers can only take out so much leftovers sometimes

Hi, We have servant for washing dishes in our house. My wife is unable to wash dishes because she is disabled. So when servant is absent I have to wash dishes. I don't wash dishes by dunking them in the sink filled with water. I wash them individually under the running tap. But It happens very rarely.

I also wash dishes about the same way that you do. I find that normally I can get them done just as fast doing them individually as I can to fill the sink with water and do them.

I wash my dishes from pril soap or some time with powder. I rinse the dishes before washing. I fill full water in a big pot and then wash the dish. I wash dish two time in first time dirty water is through and then again take fresh water and wash it.

After meals, we rince everything and put it in once sie of the sink. After Supper each night we load up the dishwasher and start it. In the morning we take all of the clean dishes out of the washer and put them away.

Sorry we don't have a dishwasher with us. We do wash the dishes by hand only.Like you we too wash the dishes one by one with a soap, detergent and then one by one rinse in the running water. We have a maid servant who is doing all this and in her absence we do it ourselves.
