The thunderstorm killed my CRT computer monitor in the living room!

There was a thunderstorm in my area, and it's starting to leak through the roof in the living room. A few minutes earlier on 2/5/2011, just as I was about to go on the internet, I heard rainfall on the roof, and when I turned on the monitor, it became faint green. Something went wrong with the VGA connection as I thought it would come apart. so I pulled the tower part back and fixed it. It didn't work. Then I checked the top of the monitor. Since the rain was leaking I rubbed my fingers through the top of the monitor screen, and I was right. THE RAIN'S LEAKING THROUGH THE ROOF ONTO MY COMPUTER MONITOR! As the screen got brighter and brighter, it became just a bright green dot and before I knew it, it went on the fritz and the monitor screen got fried, killing the monitor permanently as it didn't turn on again. Had to take it to the side porch of my mom's house as it was raining. Now i'll have to buy a new CRT monitor from a thrift store. It was an eMachines CRT monitor, and it was from a part of my first eMachines PC. I'm typing this on my third public eMachines PC in the living room, but using my Acer LCD monitor that I paid $109 out of my pocket at Office Depot for use at my nearby library with my nettop Acer Aspire Revo PC. There's a lesson to be learned from my situation: If you're going to get a CRT monitor and you have to use it in any room where the roof can leak rain during a thunderstorm or a heavy downpour, if it has any holes on top, use 2 to 3 towels to protect its sensitive components inside the screen. Swap towels as it gets wetter and wetter. Otherwise, spend a lot more money on an LCD monitor screen.

I think the lesson here is to fix the roof! If you can't do that move the monitor to another room or to a section that doesn't leak!

No! Don't ever cover your monitor! Those holes are there for a good reason - cooling. And never use any electrical equipment where water can fall on it!
