It's winter and in many parts of the world, particularly the States, it is cold and snowy. But some people refuse to allow wintry weather to confine them to staying indoors. Anybody here have outdoors activities they like to do regardless of the weather? I like to hike. I frequently bushwhack and the best time of the year is winter when all the foliage is dead and snakes and those pesky bugs are gone, BUT not necessarily the bears. I ran into bear tracks the other day while on a trek in Shenandoah NP. Followed his trail for awhile, but never saw him. (FYI, black bears in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia do not hibernate, even though they become less active.)

Winter is my favourite season. Snow lets you do a wide variety of activities that would otherwise be unavailable to us humans. I do a lot of downhill skiing in the winter along with snowshoeing. Snowshoeing is especially enjoyable for me as I enjoy hiking as well. It is more or less the same activity, the main difference is that you are wearing tennis rackets on your feet lol.

Snow machining and snow shoeing is the greatest. Where I am now I can't really enjoy it like I did...

I have never showshoed, although I have hiked in conditions where snowshoes would have been so much more efficient. I even scoped some out, but alas... have never gotten any...yet.
