What To Do When You Are Sleepy At Work

I have this really big dilemma every workdays from 1:00 to 3:00 in the afternoon. I always feel sleepy. There isn't a big workload for me in my job and it's either I swell my eyes using the computer and surfing the net whole day (which I can't because my eyes get tired and painful) or give in to my sleepy side. How do you handle your sleepiness when you are at work?

When I get the afternoon sleepies, I drink a big glass of water, eat a handful of raisins, then take a walk, for 5 or 10 minutes. If I can't walk, I just do some stretches in my work area.

Thanks for the tips. Just want to ask why raisins take away your sleepiness?

The raisins give a little energy boost. I don't remember where I heard it, but alot of weight-lifters use raisins for quick energy, instead of steroids, or energy drinks, because it is healthier for you. So I tried it, (eating a handful of raisins)and it worked. I didn't get jittery like having too much coffee either!

I cup of coffee will help me. But since I'm a coffee addict, every now and then I drink lots of coffee. Chitchatting with colleagues a little bit will help me awake. Stretching can also help me.

Sad thing, I do not have anyone with me in the office. The other office where there are two folks are about 10 - 20 meters away from my office. It's hard to be secluded!

i sometimes have gone to work with not much sleep because of my health issues. i honly work for 4 hours per day so its not too bad, but to combat being sleepy, i get up and walk around and get a cold drink.

I work at night shift...and when I'm sleepy, I take my power nap. lol. If its not possible for you to do so, then just drink coffee or walk around. The other thing that I do is talk to my officemates...that works too.

Well, since I work from home, I just go to bed? Hahaha!~Nah, by the time I hit the sack, it would sometimes be 2am-3am? Then the next morning it's around 8:30am I'm already up..

I work at night so I often face this kind of things but if things get so busy at work I forget that I'm sleepy. Best way so far to fight sleepiness at work is to walk outside, breath fresh air and drink water.

Usually, we have 8 hours to work but in between this 8 hour work, we have a couple of minutes break. I think that most employers would allow its employees to have 3 breaks in a day. One in the morning, another one for lunch, and another one in the afternoon. According to some studies, it is very normal for us to feel sleepy on working hours that is why need to have a few minutes spent for a nap. 15 minutes they say is good enough. So for us to be productive, we should finish our lunch fast then have a nap so we will be energized in the afternoon.

Take a quick break, grab a snack or take a brief walk around. If you cannot afford to be out for at least 15minutes, stretching will truly help you awaken your senses.
