elections for municipality

In our country(SA)its the time for the local municipality election. My opinion is that, we elect people to be there for us, to see the needs of the community and try to change the lifes of the people. We are a country who has got so many rural areas and urban areas, needs to improve every need of these people. In the rural areas, there are areas where you need to walk some KMs to fetch water in the public taps, no ways that some one can get his/her own taps in their homes, police stations are miles away to where people are living, schools, and clinics are not even closer. The purpose for us to elect these candidates, is for them to implement changes by being representatives of these people to the government, to see that demands that are being raised by community are heard, but you will find out they are there in the offices getting fat cheques doing nothing and not even responding to the querries of the community. Now they are campaigning for us to elect them and be in the offices again doing nothing.
