Blackpool, England

I've spent alot of time in Blackpool either on holiday, working or just on day trips from my home town 2 1/2 hours away. I've always loved the atomsphere but I know alot of people who hate the place. I would like to know what you think? Do you have any fond memories of holidays there? Or Does the place not interest you?

I don't hate Blackpool, I just don't understand the attraction. Then, after hearing comedian Lenny Henry's views about it, I can appreciate a lot of the negative things. Why every seaside town in Britain must be a holiday resort is just crazy.

It's just one of those places that you either like or don't. I've spent that much time there it feels as much like home as my real home town. I have lots of friends there some of which I have daly contct with using the internet. My Step Dad's family has a guest house there as well so if I wanted to stay over I could. It has had some bad press and was starting to get dirty but the local authority has spent a lot of money on the prom and done it up. I like St. Annes just down the coast as well. I spent a lot of time there while I worked in the area. It is quieter and more up market. That shows your right about the seaside towns being holiday resorts because in Fylde there are Blackpool, Lytham St. Annes and Fleetwood which are all in a small area. I'd love to find somewhere that wasn't over run with tourists. But I still love the hustle and bustle of resorts like Blackpool.

I spent several holidays in Blackpool when I was a kid -- I had a great aunt married there --, and I can say that I enjoyed these holidays and I keep good memories of this town. I remember the zoo which was newly opened, the attractions, and the peers where I was playing pennies with my uncle. I don't know how it is today -- I have not been there since 20 years --, but at the time it was a great place for holidays.

My ex-boyfriend came from Preston and we did visit Blackpool a number of times. I liked Lytham St Anne more than Blackpool with the coast line plus the bird reserve. Also the lighthouse I liked down there. I enjoyed the trams in Blackpool and the illuminations. It has three piers which is excellent. I didn't bother going up the tower. I feel Blackpool is rather tacky but it has an exciting atmosphere that I quite like.
