Would you commit suicide or fight till the end to protect your honor ?

Just recently one of the countries former top official committed suicide.
He shot himself using a 45 caliber pistol. He was accused of pocketing
more than USD 2.2 million when he was still in the position.
As I remembered the movie Last Samurai which stars Tom Cruise he offers
his life in exchange for what he believes what is good for Japan (at that time).
Now with the modern era will you still do the same?
