I herniated my back at work then was fired do to going to hospital. I had to have two surgeries in 11mths. I have recently been released from surgeon but not pain free. I have been told to work thru the pain that "it is what it is" now try to learn how to live with it.I have lost 30lbs since my first surgery and try to be a active as possible however the pain does hold me back. What options are out there for someone in this position? I know that there are others like me in the same position please do tell me what you do to "work thru the pain?"

hi there. usually after recovering from a surgery, one should need to be seeing a physical therapist regularly to know your "activities of the daily living" so as to help you improve in your condition. they would be the one to teach you some techniques and exercises beneficiary to your condition. also, your body would require proper food and nutrition by taking multivitamins especially protein, calcium and potassium for muscles and bones. be careful not to take strenuous exercises such as lifting weights or something you know would affect your hips and thighs.

Thank you I have done PT for over a year and yes it does improve to a point. I guess its outta my hands and I must make the best of it. Vitamins and good nutrition are part of my life mainly due to fact I have been in medical field and I am aware of what can happen if these routines aren't in check. I am very mindful of what I need/want to do and I have made it my daily schedule to do exercise and watch what I eat. No one ever told me how hard it is to recouperate from this type of surgery (2) or that you may not be able to make complete recovery. With all that medicine can do I guess I wantd to look at things with rose colored glasses. Always the optimist. I am

If you are still in pain after surgery I think it called failed back something. Are you in pain management? Even with pm they are trying for 50 percent pain relief.
