virus help

I have a laptop and i know it has a virus. I did power on and the screen came up to start in safe mode or good last know ect. I tried all of them starting with last good known but the windows logo comes on but goes to black screen and nothing else. I have some computer knowledge. Is there anyway to fix this. I do not have the restore disks either. I do have a desktop and the laptop. I have worked on other desktops before I take out the hard drive install it into mine run the virus cleaner and put them back together and it works. I dont know how to do that with a laptop.
Any suggestions without me having to leave my house to buy an external drive?

If you can get into safemode with networking, do so. Go to windows onecare and run that program. Also try superantispyware. There are some online scanners available, such as TrendMicro Housecall. If you cannot get into networking but can get into safemode, try burning some programs onto a cd.
