Best places to stay in Ocean City?

We'd love to return to Ocean City Maryland this summer to go to the beach. We went last summer and had fun. I'd love to stay in a hotel right on the beach so that I can go out on the balcony and see the ocean in the morning. I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions for some affordable hotels on the beach. Or any place you've stayed that you really liked and is affordable. We are a family of five on a limited budget. We stayed at Castaways campground last year. It was really nice and I would stay there again. It is a short drive to the main beaches and other attractions. We do have access to a motorhome so a campground is possible but I'd really love the experience of staying at a hotel right on the beach. Any ideas?

I've been to Ocean City lots of times. I'm from Baltimore so, naturally, that's the place to go. I remember staying at the Fenwick Inn. I can't remember if I could see the ocean from there but it was only one block from the ocean and it didn't cost an arm and a leg. I just looked it up and they have rooms for $45.00 a night but that price is probably for winter rates and/or it could be that the $45.00/night rooms are on the side that faces away from the ocean. It's weird that I came across this discussion now because I was just talking to the boyfriend I had way back when and we used to go to Ocean City quite often, usually just day trips but sometimes we'd stay overnight on the weekends. On our salaries at the time, it would HAVE to be cheap for us to afford it. LOL I've been wanting to go back there myself recently. I'll definitely be going this summer sometime, although I don't know if I'll be staying at a hotel or not because I have some friends and in-laws who live minutes from there. One sister-in-law lives IN Ocean City. How cool is that?

I haven't been to Ocean City, Maryland in years. I think just about every hotel in the summer time is going to be expensive there. What is the budget per night that you don't want to go over? Maybe I can ask around for you.

It's not somewhere I have been but, it sounds wonderful and I wish I could go away somewhere like that in the near future! However I am doing a small break to a European city and am looking forward to that!
