Hello everyone I know that lack of insulin causes diabetes. But what is insulin resistance? is it the same as diabetes or is it a type of diabetes? I am a bit confused, since my uncle has been diagnosed as suffering from insulin resistance and has been told to reduce weight and control diet.

Insuline resistance is a kind of diabetes, witch makes your uncles body to have dificulty leveling the amount of sugar circulating in his blood. Its not a total faileure of his insuline, but a partial disfuncionality, witch has to be corrected trough diet, exercice, weight control and medication if needed. There is not a term pre - diabetes mas it almost can be considered as that. But there are good news, if controling his diet gets his glicemia to be always in normal levels, he'll have a long healthy life, he just has to be aware of its condition and not eat everything that he wants.
