karaoke file types suitable for dvd player?

hello myLotters. we here at home are very fond of singing karaoke, may it be through vcds/dvds or using magic mic's (as some name the karaoke device). we definitely enjoyed the songs in our selection. however, they're kind of old, and music stores here in our place do not offer today's songs for karaoke. i'm seeking for downloadable songs which i could play with the dvd, but i don't know which file format to download or should i convert them to after downloading. our dvd player plays mpeg, divx files, vcd file types. what type of format should i download?
