My son was in a nursing home for a long time. He was in a car wreck and suffered a severe head injury. I take care of him at home now but it took quite a lot of rehab just to get him ready to be able to live at home. I actually stayed with him in a room for about 6 months! It sounds crazy now but his wreck was out of state and I had no place so they put me in the room with him so I could help care for him! I've had him home for about 7 months now. He is still improving slowly!

Hello there, In my country, nursing home is not much popular. This is because we care for our old folks at home. It is the responsibility of children to take care of their parents or grandparents. Although nursing home is becoming known. But not so much patients. Only those who do not have families can go there and those who really want their parents be taken cared by nursing home personnel.

I don't have any relatives living in a nursing homes. Well, not yet. I think it's going to be hard taking care of someone living there. You only have to visit once in a while but I guess you'll always have that motivation because he/she is a relative.

There are nursing homes here in the Philippines but it is not a common practice for us Filipinos to have their mother, father, or grandparents stay in this kind of institution. We often take care of our old folks until they decide that they had enough time. The people in these institutions are more likely those who do not have children and so they are left alone so the institution takes care of them instead. There are also some cases that they were abandoned by their own children. There was just this one incident where a couple here had there mother with them living in the same house but being treated differently. They had her in a cage. They fed her as if she was a dog. It is a shame that people do this. They do not seem to realize the sacrifices she had to make for their sake when they were younger.
