The dictionary says that Paradise is - a) A place that is extremely beautiful and that seems perfect, like heaven. b) A place where we go when we die. c) A perfect place. d) The Garden of Eden. To some people, Paradise is a tropical isle with crystal blue seas and skies, golden beaches and palm trees and where time seems to stand still. For others, paradise is their normal surroundings with the contentment and security they feel. And for a few, Paradise is having just 5 mins. to themselves to relax, re-gain energy, have some peace and quiet before re-embarking back into their busy day. So what does the word "Paradise" mean to you and where/what is it?

I feel sorry for those people who can't seem to help but destroy others' harmony. But, I find that if I allow their behavior to dictate how I treat people-including them-as a result, then they win because they destroy my integrity-which in turn destroys my harmony. God bless!

Yeah, if we let them rule our lives with destruction and sadness then they have won. But it is not always easy to teach and point out their mis-givings. If we all try to change one persons bad ways and convert them to good, then, hopefully we can make the world a better place.

For me the paradise is not a place, is a mental state, imagine for a moment you can live without fears, hate, sadness... and any other negative mental states, if you learn to eliminate all of them you can live in a perfect peace it doesn't matter where you are, and this is the paradise, isn't it? Best wishes...

I think the wars, envy and all those kind of things can not be eliminated of the world, I refer to eliminate the negative states in your own mind, not in the outside, that's why I said the paradise is in your own mind not in a place, the perfect place does not exist. The paradise in the interior of everyone, you only have to find it.

It sure would be. If only wars, sadness and negativity could be eliminated from the world.

paradise is in the heart and mind. it is a state of being where we feel most happy and heavenly. it is not a place where we can go to. it is what we long for in life - freedom from wants and needs. when we detach ourselves from the worries and concerns of everyday living, we feel free. and wherever we will be if we fell free, that is paradise for us. so, let us make this earth a paradise from freeing ourselves from the excesses of our lives.

Paradise an inner feeling and contentment with ones self is certainly how many see this word. I agree about trying to make the world more of a harmonised place with added security, neighbourly love and care and freedom from materialistic values. But bwhat about outside influences that we have no control over and disrupt our harmonious life style!

To me paradise is a place where everything works well together... nothing's broken. It is aslso a place that produces the kind of beauty that you specifically like. For me, that would be a waterfall surrounding my front door... and you cross a small pond and foot bridge to enter/exit. It's filled with beautiful koi. There are persons there who acknowledge and support you without a 2nd thought or fear - and we work together to win at any event. Having an expansive amount of land - and it rises up to meet you. Rolling hills, cute lil valleys, distant mounatains, and plateaus that are high enough to sit atop them and view everything around you. Complete with bright city lights and the slight murmur of the city's hustle and bustle - yet you are far enough away to ignore it at will. You can sit and look up at the stars, dream, and imagine a number of things while you lay on the lushest grass you have ever seen or felt. This paradise would be intimately connect to my mind - and what my mind sees as good, healthy, pure, godly, fruitful, abundant, abundant, and abundant!! Oh and my house, the interior and other trappings... I can't even get into it!! WHHoooo weee!! It is amazing!! maybe 15 bedrooms, an enormous library, a great decorative pool, wonderful manicured lawns that flow inside at certain points b/c the house can open a wall to allow the outside to come in. The kitchen (which I would neevr use) would be replete with a PERSONAL CHEF who cooks me anything I want - but, watching my health and diet at the same time; any time of day or night. I'd have friends and family over all the time... for days and weeks at a time; they could stay as long as they wanted... SO LONG AS THEY ARE NOT GETTING ON MY NERVES!! A sunken living room with several large flatscreen tv - uhmmm... and maybe two fireplaces in that one room alone (flanking the sides of the tv's). There would be so many nooks and crannies that you could sit and have privacy anywhere... the stairs would wind and turn and never face the front door. There's more than one staircase! And I'd of course have a movie theatre in my basement and an awesome surround sound system the could play wonderful music (classical) as well as movies. And, you'd never bother the neighbors b/c they're not close enough to even care.... let's say a mile away (mile between each home - yeah!!). I could go on and on... but you SEE - my point!! PARADISE INDEED!!

Wow, thanks for this indepth response Dug. The thought of waterfalls, ponds and wide open spaces sure sounds like paradise. The flowing of water is supposed to have a calming, relaxing effect on one and the chance to get back to nature out among the green, rolling hills or under a star lite night, through out the changing seasons certainly appeals to me. As for the house, if I were one of your visitors I surely would get lost. But the joy of getting lost in such a house would be an adventure, with every nook or cranny discovering something new and never knowing what awaited around each corner.

Paradise for me is a place where one experiences serenity of mind, heart, and soul. A paradise can be an island where there are only a few people with the presence of beautiful natural scenery of the sea, the trees, the birds, etc. Moreover, it could be in abstract form like in the heart of someone close to you. In addition, paradise also refers to the place one goes after one's life here on earth is done.

Yes I do agree. Paradise is the place where one can be at peace with ones self. Be it a place, an inner feeling or purely in the company of others. It also varies on the mood of the individual. But, knowing human behaviour, I don't think we ever truely find paradise, for when we achieve what we are looking for and want we then expand the goal posts and want somehing even better.
