In 3 or 4 months my pc seems to get infected by virus and I need to call the technician to format my pc. If I could solve the problem with system restore I do that. I have update on for my antivirus and windows update are also on. I generally don't download anything. Now I want to know what steps I should take to avoid my system from getting virus.

Which antivirus are you using, i will suggest you to download avg internet security 2011 and use it, in my opinion it is the best antivirus. For windows xp , it usually becomes very slow after you install and uninstall too many softwares, so it becomes a habit of xp to get a format ever 5 or 6 months, so i will suggest you to use windows 7 after you upgrade your ram to 2gb. And why dont you learn youreslf to format your pc its damn easy

Well I am using Avast . I don't have genuine windows copy. For upgrade to windows 7 do I need minimum of 2 GB RAM and can I upgrade with the current motherboard(mercury PVM7 PRO V 1.0) type ? I would love to learn how to format my PC and would ask you for a full procedure.

Avast is not a good antivirus, it is good in detecting virus but it is not able to delete them properly, i used avast for more than 2 years but finally gave up when i had to format my whole harddisk due to virus attack. Download avg internet security 201 from picktorrent and use it. 2gb ram is needed for windows 7 as it will not slow down your pc, although you can also use it in 1gb ram, your motherboard will support it. I am at your help anytime

There are some free antiviruses out there, such as AVG and avast. Try using those if you antivirus is doign so poorly. Also, try visiting only trusted sites, this will reduce exposure to viruses. Secondly, dont leave USB sticks in your PC when not using it, they can harbour viruses, and if you leave sticks in pcs, they are more likely to get a virus. Furthermore, update regularaly. Hope this helps

You are just doing software updates that are needed, you should clean the CPU cooling fan ( fan over the processor ) frequently as the dust can stop the airflow to processor and can result in to over heating. You should first scan the removable media before using it. These small things will help you to run your PC smoothly.
