This sonnet has reverberated over and over my mind after hearing Robin Williams in the movie Patch Adams read it to his girlfriend Linda. This sonnet by Pablo Neruda give images of a great love for a person in the absence of reasons. This is one of the most romantic poems I've ever read. It is written in a simple manner that can easily be understood yet it has a great impact to the readers. Here is the Sonnet of Pablo Neruda: I do not love you like rose-salt or topaz, or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off, I love you like certain dark things are to be loved, In secret, between the shadow and the soul. I love you as the plant that never blooms, But carries in itself the light of hidden flowers, Thanks to your love, a certain solid fragrance, risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body. I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where, I love you straightforwardly without complexities or pride, So I love you because I know no other way Than this: where you nor I does not exist, So close that your hand in my chest is my hand, So close, that your eyes close as I fall asleep. It was heartwrenching when Patch started to read the last part of the poem, on Linda's burial... :( What do you think about the sonnet? Ever had great sonnets to share written by someone else or written by you?
