Definition of FRIEND? A Helper in need or a Truth teller?

I have a doubt on a person who i call my best friend. i have known him for 1 year. We both pursue for bachelor's degree now. I dont understand is he really my best friend? He talks to me very well, calls me everyday, hangs around me, asks doubts regarding his cellphone. He even helps me for small things. But the only time he turns up is when i need him very badly. Recently, I needed him to join a FREE organisation which aimed at the economic development of the country. He simply denied and refused to talk about it as he didnt like it. He said the truth but i needed his help. So, is he my true friend? A true friend should be a truth-teller or a helper in need?

I don't know deepakjuly20, your friend doesn't want to join an organization because he doesn't like it? Would you have a friend compromise his principles because you want him to? True friends help, but also respect the beliefs of each other.
