Self Esteem

It seems that most people I know, including myself, have low self-esteem. I'm curious to know if there is anyone who has high self esteem and how you, I don't even know what to call it, have it? Why do so many of us have low self esteem?

I have to agree that people only have the power you give them. There are a whole lot of people in this world who have somehow managed to make certain people very upset with themselves. These people could really care less about you and what you think, so why waste time allowing them to get to you? Happy Mylotting

I wish I knew why it mattered so much to me. I guess that's my main problem.

That is why its called Self Esteem. Esteem of Yourself. What do you think about you, is a better question. The first person cheering for you should be YOU.

I think that people in general are inferior one way or another. There is this quote from Eleanor Roosevelt that says, "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent." That statement is pretty strong for me and I agree with it. No one can really make you feel bad about your self if you don't already feel bad about yourself. There is that little exception though because sometimes people can just be so cruel. People who have high self esteem mostly have low esteem. They are just sometimes masking it to make it seem like they are very confident about themselves but on the inside they really are insecure.

That's a wonderful quote! I'm going to have to remember that one. I've always heard "fake it til you make it". Maybe those that appear to have high self esteem have just learned how to fake it really well. Maybe I need acting lessons?
