Help me with my computer!

I know very little about computers and I know a lot of Mylot members are very familiar with them, so I need your help. I have been having trouble with it for a few days now. My monitor would go blank and then come back on. I shut it all down, and then the next day I couldn't get any of it to come on. I finally got the tower to come on, but the screen still was black. It would come on for a few seconds and then go black again. The screen is still under warranty, so I called the number listed. I was told to borrow cables from someone else and see if it worked then. A friend of mine came over today with the cables from his computer and switched them over. Nothing. He put mine back on and it started to work again. He couldn't remember doing anything different that would make it work. The screen kept saying "No signal input, check video cable." The problem was we couldn't find the video cable, it wasn't even listed in the book. Does anyone know where that cable is? Also, I am afraid to turn off the tower in case I can't get it back on, but I think it is better to reboot it every night. Any suggestions?

You have to test more until figure out that Monitor of yours has defects and its time to decide to return and exchange a better one. Like: - Test other Monitors with your PC. - Test your Monitor to other PC.

That makes sense! My friend's that brought the cables over monitor doesn't work, so I will have to try it somewhere else. So far it is okay, but if it happens again I will test it before I go to all the trouble of sending it back. It is still under warranty, but it might be easier to just get a new one. I was wondering if leaving everything on all the time will hurt anything. What do you do? Thanks for the help.

hmmm.. hehehehe I don't know or have any ideas if that works or you like that way. Actually I turned off the Monitor as the same time I shutdown the computer. Though, some Monitors especially LCD Monitors has auto-shutoff or sleep or standby mode if when idle or has power-saver capabilities. Then it will just turn-on automatically if when the computer powered-on. Be sure the cable of the Monitor attached to the computer is secured with the screw locks and not loosely.

I am not sure if mine is an LCD Monitor or not. It probably is because it has a sleep mode. The cables were the first things I checked. When my friend came over he found one that was loose. Boy did I feel dumb! Even after he tightened it the same thing happened. In a way I was glad because there was another problem. Sometimes I think computers are more trouble than they are worth. Most times however I don't feel that way, and am lost if it is not working right.

hi my friend listen first of all test your computer on another monitor( like your friend's monitor ); if that worked, then the damage is from your monitor and you should get a new one but if your friend's monitor didn't work either then you should check the video card inside your computer case if you don't know where the video card is it is where you plug in your monitor cables in the computer case if your video card is not built in with the motherboard( separated from the motherboard ) you can buy anew one it's not that expensive I hope I didn't confuse you more :) good luck.

Thanks for your response. My friends monitor doesn't work. I can find someone else's though. I knew nothing about a video card in my computer. I hope it is not built in, that would make it much easier. Everything seems to be working for now. If it happens again, I will test it like you suggest and then ship it back if need be. It is still under warranty, but it might be easier to just get a new one. Do you think it is okay to leave everything on? I know it uses more electricity, but I don't think it is that much. I am afraid if I turn it off, I won't get it to start again.
