Will you have a party with all colleagues before you'll leave your company?

I worked for many companies before I enter here. In my old companies, new staffs usually feast colleagues drinks, fast food or to make a small parties in order that everyone can introduce each other. when we want to leave, we'll go around all departments to say goodbye. Here is different. New staffs don't make any things. But when they leave, they usually invite all colleagues with a parties at a restaurant! In the first time I go to the restaurant, I feel shy. I think that leaving is a bad announcement, so we shouldn't have a party! How do you think about this? Which way do you like?

It is the same as in Indonesia, most companies will throw out a party when someone from executive level is leaving the company but not when someone is new in the company. I think the party is a well wish from the company that you would be succeed in your next endeavor. I once did it myself when I left a company, I throw a party for several of my close colleagues. It does not turn out good. They just don't care as I really care for them as friends. For them, I was just a colleague, good one to work with and when I was gone, life goes on.

Please don't mind my grammar. They've been on holiday recently.

Yes, that's the best way, cause no one really care what happened to our career in future. They will look up on us when they realized that we succeed beyond their belief. Ah, human will still be human.

I agree that colleagues are only colleagues. We maybe can have some of them as our friends but this is very rarely. I think that we only need going around all departments to visit and to say goodbye them.

yes it is common here for collgues to treat the departing collegues a meal or party wHn he she is leaving the company especially those who work for long time like few years ,I guess those with good relationship will wish to maintain friendship even after different working place especially with today technology of online networking ,

I agree here too because anyone leaving a company does not necessarily mean they are leaving on bad terms. Everyone deserves to escalate in their careers and it has been common in all my previous places of employment to wish them well with their future endeavors.

Hi my friends, Your ideas are quite good. But I want to say that the employee invited all staffs and our bosses!

Wow! That is very strange. Is it as if everyone would be happy when someone has to leave the company? Of course, it is different if the person is retiring, then I guess that is a valid reason to celebrate, but someone who is leaving, well...Really strange.

i agree with you. Its very strange to see someone leave a company and others celebrate his departure......hmmm that is very very unfair

I agree with both you. In the first time when I was invited, I feel very shy. But I still gone. I can't refuse!

I see that a bit differently, I find that a going away party is a way to share last moments together and wish the person a happy and successful new start at the new place. I could see if the employee was a trouble maker and they could not wait to be rid of the person, then employees may somehow be reluctant. But a going away to me and or for me would allow me to make my bitter sweet departure and feel appreciated.

I'm sorry that I have not understood full meanings of your response. Are the parties good or bad?

I would rather have a gathering at the beginning of employment. It would be a better idea because everyone can meet. I the end of employment people are sad and it can be difficult to say bye.

I guess it would depend on the reason they are leaving. If it is a retirement or something like that, a party would be nice. If the person leaving is close to the others and they are improving themselves, then they could have a private party. I have never heard of having small parties when you start working somewhere. That would be a good way to introduce the new person, and make them feel at ease.

I will never throw a party when I leave. I will just leave as quietly as possible, without much drama. I do not want to celebrate leaving of any form.

Hi Cutie, Although you won't throw a party, I think that you should go to all departments and saying goodbye with your colleagues.

Here in our office we don't do that when someone leaves the company. Neither when someone is newly hired. But for those high executives, they sometimes do that, specially when they are going abroad for greener pastures. They would give a "despedida" party. Well, if one can afford it, why not?
