As an Indian person we all know what is important word GURU for us and it is only and only indian word, nowadays i see lot of sites with included this word from all over the world and means different according to their products or services for their purpose. So now I want to say this is HOLY WORD for us and Must not be used anywhere in useless places or business related sites,So Indian government should take some strict steps to stop it to used everywhere and keep patent for it.What do you say?

hello, I do not really know if words can be patented or some people can have exclusive use of it but in the Philippines, the word is an Indian influence that predates Spanish colonization, maybe when the islands was part of the Indian kingdoms of Majapahit and and Sri Vijaya empires which flourished in Southeast Asia. "Guro" in Pilipino simply means teacher, we all call our teachers Guro and that is a title with respect

Hello, GURU word almost in compared to GOD here in India, also as you said we also use word Guru for teachers too because they are respected and teaches us not to study but living life. The meaning of Guru is : "one who dispels darkness of ignorance" "Gu" means "darkness of ignorance" and "Ru" means "one who removes" YOGA word also related to indian but used all over the world for different meanings, before 2-3 years this word also had some problems between india and other countries for it's ownership.

Nice thought, Vbpujara. Nothing wrong with testing you idea! But as already stated above, one cannot just patent a word that has been in use for years.

Thanks for reply but this word is all about to respect and should only be used on appropriate occasion not everywhere for any meaningless places or persons...

I dont think there is any point in having patent for just a word.It is a sacred word for us but for others it is not...but we shouldn't care at all. If we are going to have patent for that then we should do something to stop killing of cows all over the world, which is impossible.A lot of words have been taken into other languages from our sanskrit. We should be proud of that instead of trying to get patent for our words:)

your point about saving cow is very nice, this is possible but difficult at all, and about word Guru ,this is not fair as everyone using this word for their business related purpose in all over world but should be used for specific purposes...
