My daughter applied for a full scholarship to take up Medicine after graduating in BS Biology, this April. She is on cumlaude standing and she said she has to really finish as cumlaude on graduation before she could be proclaimed as full scholar. In line with that, the Foundation is asking for a PhP5,000.00 (US$116.00) reservation fee. We were asking why do they have to ask that. She said it’s required because the student might drop the slot when the time comes, when it should have been given to others. Guys, anybody experienced this before or what's you thought on this?

I am also confused. Why they have to get a reservation fee from student who are applying for scholarship. If ever the scholarship is only for good for 10 people and 1 drop off from them then the 11th person who is applying for the scholarship is the one who will get the last place as simple as that. Unless the person has more valid reason than mine. Tell them my reason. And see what will be their reply.

Yes, you are right syoti20. That's why before sending the 5k we asked my daughter that. But because, it has a deadline, we just sent it to her. She's sure to get the scholarship but she's aiming for the full scholarship though.

Yes I have with both my children and the reason for the fee is to hold a slot/position for her and if she drops and they cannot fill the spot then they will be out. The fee is either for materials, or towards the salary for the instructor and or the facility fee. It is all worked out in the budgeting prior to setting up figures before hand.
