It's WRONG For Pit Bulls Get A Bad Rap!

Here's a reason why: http://halopets.com/freekibble/donation11.php And while you're looking that up, think about this: the dog that played with the stars of "Little Rascals" was a pit bull. Many folks think all pit bulls are inherently vicious. While it may be true that as a breed they tend to be on the aggressive side, with training, they can be perfectly fine as pets. Also with the other kind of training, which is really just animal abuse, they will be dangerous. I've seen some pit bulls which people have trained to attack, & those are as dangerous as any guard dog--Rottweiler, Doberman Pincer, Shepherd or Mastiff--doesn't matter a whit! The only difference is how they're treated. Train them to be gentle pets, & you won't find any more loyal, loving dog. Abuse any animal that can defend itself, & you'll convert it to being vicious & dangerous. Any animal. I guarantee you'll love the dog in the link I've provided! In fact, I think it qualifies to be listed under the "AWWWWW" category! Oh, & BTW, chalk up another great article from Freekibble.com! Maggiepie, I am in total agreement with you. Thanks for posting this. There is nothing like the smile of a pit-bull! oh yes, last week I saw one with it's owner outside of a store, and asked if I could pet her...her name was Cuddles:) She licked my hand and when I got home I had slobber all the way up my arm!!! LOL Love them! Vaya con Dios, acongojada

Thank you. I always fight prejudice, no matter the form. You, also, "go with God!" Maggiepie "It is with words as with sunbeams, the more they are condensed, the deeper they burn." ~ Robert Southey, poet (1774-1843)

The dangerous thing about Pit Bulls, so I've heard, is that if they get a grip on you, it's almost impossible to get them off. But a dog that is trained and treated right isn't going to be aggressive like that anyway.

I've also heard that. And you're exactly right re the training. Maggiepie "Obstacles are those frightening things you see when you take you eyes off your goal." ~ Henry James

I have always said treat them with love and they will be good pets the people that train them to fight are the ones that gave pitt bulls a bad name

I think Pit Bulls are judged wrong. I had a pit bull and he was the sweetest dog ever. He was very friendly and lovable. It is the way you train the dog. If he is brought up in a loving home; he will be lovable.

See, now, that's exactly what everyone says who's ever known or owned one! I have to believe they're not all wrong! Thanks for chipping in your 2 cents to support the breed! Maggiepie "The smallest feline is a masterpiece." ~ Leonardo da Vinci

This reminds me of the wolf hybrid I had the pleasure of being friends with. She was very intelligent and very gentle. But if a stranger was at my door, she'd get between me and the door and watch his every move. Prejudice can extend even to animals, it is born of fear and ignorance. You are correct in saying that it is the trainers fault if a dog goes bad. I love your animal stories!

I was hitching through Boulder, Colorado many mumbledy-mumble moons ago when I met a fellow who had a pet wolf-dog mix puppy he cradled in his jacket. The little fellow was adorable, & very mild-mannered. I've often wondered how they fared. Now-a-days he'd probably be arrested just for having it, but they made such a cute pair of hitchhikers! Everyone seems to love my animal stories! Most of the ones I've posted come from the on-line charity for dogs & cats, Freekibble.com! If you'd like to contribute (for free!) food to them, go play their games! You can sign up to get a daily reminder. Every quiz you play--even if you get the answer incorrect--they donate 10 pieces of kibble to the animals. How cool is that? And of course, you can get the cool links to these stories whenever you like! Maggiepie "The smallest feline is a masterpiece." ~ Leonardo da Vinci

-the most decorated dog in military history is a pit bull named Sargent stubby -the only dog to ever appear on the cover of life magazine was an american pit bull terrier three times!! - the most highly decorated St Johns therapy dog in Ontario was a pit bull and now that they have a ban this dog is no longer allowed to visit hospitals and old age homes Hellen keller owned a pit bull I have owned to ex fighting dogs that were rescues and both i would trust with my life they were the gentlest dogs you would ever meet and would never so much as look funny at a humane pitbulls were originally bred as both working dogs and nanny dogs as they can take a child falling on them and are extremely watchful

I was unaware of Sergeant Stubby. Hooray for him! I also didn't know Helen Keller had a pit bull! And banning that nice dog from helping people just stinks! I hate the blind, stupid prejudice against pit bulls! Those folks are being deprived of that sweet dog's company? This is just one of the reasons I fight for them--& I'm not even really a "dog person," as such. I really wish people would think for themselves! You must really love the breed to know so much about them. Thank you for standing up for this wrongly-maligned breed, & for the new info! Hiya MP, Whilst they are not my most favourite Dogs you are right not all of them are the same. They are not all tied with the same brush I have to be fair here too. But there are so many things happening with these Dogs and others. There is more than one Pit Bull here and they are not very friendly and you have to pass them most times too. Now the owner will not get out of the way to let you pass very easily so that makes the Dog restless and with the fear that they have instilled in us you can get to be more than a bit jumpy. The owners are the most troublesome instead of taking their Dogs for a walk where they should they drag them up and down the Streets. If you ask me they are the ones that need training not the Dog. There is a big park with facilities to walk Dogs like these ones but they will insist on loosing them off the leash and frightening other People they think that it is funny too. Not only with this Dog but there are other Dogs that are quite nasty as well. I once asked an owner to call his Dog off and he would not do it the Dog kept circling me closer and closer it was really scary he just kept laughing and saying but he won´t hurt you and I thought no I bet he would´nt but just in case I don´t want to be the recipient of a bite. Most Dogs will attack if they are not treated properly so this is my little bit as to how I feel when I have to dodge that Dog. The owner is very arrogant and blocks your pathway on purpose and looks at you as if you are not there. So I go the other way around and the Dog is still pulling at the leash and really hard to try and reach you it has a very strong muzzle on as well. All in all I find myself taking out the Rubbish and other things when she is not there. I am not the only one who does not like this Dog and that it gives them "the Willies". I love Dogs Maggie but not this kind of one. I don´t know whether they do mistreat it or not but it needs to be walked where there are not so many People and young Children. Her Boyfriend when he is with her and the Dog create some special kind of aggro as I call it too. I´m not afraid of Dogs either but this one does make me go away from it I do not like it´s character. Perhaps she reflects the owners Character very snarly and keep away from me. Her character of herself depicts that she is out of control herself and she does not control the Dog who has a lovely name actually but not the character to go with it. I have´nt reported it because I love Dogs very much and hope that the owner will see sense and walk her where she is supposed to and not have her messing up the Streets either. It could well be that the owner wants to make everyone afraid of her and the Dog too but sometime or another I fear that something will happen and that the Dog will end up paying the price for it which I would not want either. Take care now have a great Weekend.xxx
