Have you studied in more than one country?

I'd like to know the differences in schools of different countries, especially college/university. I live in the U.S. and I think college education could be better. We brag about the quality of education here, but I hear it's better in places like Sweden and Norway. Basically, at my school, classes are all about discussions. Even when half the class doesn't read the assigned material, the professor tries to carry on a discussion for an hour and a half. Some times it doesn't really get anywhere because no one is interested. I studied in Spain for one semester and I had a different experience. My professors there taught whole lectures without even looking at notes. I thought it was really impressive because they could go on and on their minds were like a book. It isn't like this at my school in the U.S.

I am in the U.S and I guess I have been lucky with my instructors. They have most all been amazing. I am amazed with every class that I take at how much I actually learn. What type of school do you attend? You might need something more adjusted to your learning style. There are differences in the type of colleges you attend.

That's true. I wish I informed myself more when I was selecting colleges. I feel almost degraded when I talk to professors here. They really lack faith in their students. When people go out of their way to truly learn about something, professors assume they are cheating.

I live in Canada and I've only gone to school here. Generally our school sytem sucks but it really depends on your teacher. I don't know that I would brag about your education in the US. Other countries may disagree. I never knew anyone who went to school in the US but its kinda a well known rumor in Canada that the American school system doesn't teach much about the rest of the world.

I actually spent my last year in highschool in the philippines. I totally agree. It`s a totally different experience. It was harder over there. Compared to U.S. standards. Not trying to bad mouth them though. There was alot more work. The teachers there were WAY more strict. It was a great experience for me and wouldnt take it back. I was actually thinking of taking college in the philippines. I also visited some, but my mother wanted me back in the states. I heard it`s insanely hard though.

I can imagine. My friend from Thailand said that when he was bad the teachers would physically punish him, like smack his hand or something. Americans are too spoiled to allow such discipline. Thank goodness... That friend is still really boisterous, but he has respect for school class rooms. So I think it worked on him.

Hi there, i am primarily from Nepal. I studied there till high school. The schools out there tend to focus on more theoretical knowledge rather than practical. But here in Australia, it's more practical. Being a student of Accounts, we need so much more practical experience and i am happy that my university has provided me with enough experience to go and get a job on my own.

Interesting, my school uses a lot of theoretical learning as well. I wish there was more practical knowledge. It is indisposable for success in a career.

Yes, even if we get good grades in one school we could do terribly in another because there are so many different learning methods being used. I wish I could have found the school with the method that works for me.
