Hello mylotters! I found 2 days ago that i have symptoms from Depersonalization disorder that is described on wikipedia. A friend told me about this, and i documented and i was like: OMG i have all these, am i sick, or what? And the weird thing is this: The exact cause of depersonalization is unknown. So...i've been told that a lot of people have this disorder. I'm not gonna write details here, there are on wiki. What do you think it is?

I feel that lately almost everyone has a disorder of some kind. It starts with children who are medicated for lack of attention andd are given Ritalin and the like as if it were candy. Years ago I taught one of those boys to read. He was in 5th grade, son of intelectuals. They were ashamed of their son and the boy had gone to psychiatrists, psychologists and other professionals. He came to me ( was dumped to me)as a lost case. I used a book about tennis instead of the typical "I love mom" books. He got restless soon so I gave him a banana and told him to run around my garden for 5 minutes. He learned to read. We live miserable sedentary and lonely lives now. Our friend is a computer. Our games are computer games. We donĀ“t live a life: we are living a virtual life. I think that all this new disorders could be helped with recess at schools and a good neighborhood.

Very insightful opinion. I couldn't have said it better myself and agree wholeheartedly.

I think that if we were reading all disorders listed on wikipedia we sure would find one that suits us :D I've read about this "depersonalization" situations in some books about OOBE. It's like 10 years ago they were a paranormal experience and now a disorder. Joking aside, If your symptoms are heavy and you are really concerned about that you should talk about it with your doctor/therapist... but those Wikipedia articles usually are really generic and they have a great power of suggestion.

Well the thing is that, i've read somewhere that you experience some things in your dreams. This is what is happening to me. Just before i fall asleep, i have a image in front of me (in my mind) and it get far, like frames that are going as far as possible and getting smaller. And this was one of the symptoms for depersonalization. I should get more details about it, and maybe get to talk with a doctor. Although i don't know how to do it. I have the impression that if i tell this to a doctor he will start laughing.

Uhm... that would be a bad doctor I think they are used to hear lot of weird question and they also know that if they're making fun of their patients "silly questions" they're risking to scare them when they have to ask serious staff, so I don't think he'll laugh and if he will you should better change doctor But if you are really shy to talk about it maybe you could start with something more generic, as having problem to fall asleep and then you start talking about this symptoms you have.

i saw it in wiki. one symptom says "not feeling in control of one's speech or movements". i think i've experienced this for several times already. but wait.. i think i was drunk. LOL. anyway, i can't say i really understand what it says, but it got me interested. i was not aware of this disorder until now. thanks for opening it up.
