What can you say about those people who relives the passion of Christ during Holy week? Carrying heavy wooden cross all the way to a mountain and have themselves nailed on it? Are they forgiven from their sins by doing so?

Yes. What Zha says is true. Christ has done it already for us. But that doesn't mean we give the whole thing to him and say to ourselves, "Were saved, Alleluia! and thats it." No. I think we still have our "cross" to carry - albeit not in the literal form as what's done in the Philippines or somewhere else (I can't remember). I may be wrong, but I tend to think that carrying the heavy wooden cross up the hill and getting themselves nailed is an action that's motivated more by natural religiosity - which basically means WE have to do something as payment for our sins so that we can gain some kind of favour (favour is not the same as grace).

Yeah, you're right it's a tradition here in the Philippines. But for me, "carrying your cross" doesn't literally means that way. I think following God's footsteps is doing good deeds like He did.

They may have their personal reasons perhaps, no? And that's their prerogative. To some extent, it may be a legitimate sign of showing our gratitude for what God has done for us in lieu of the crimes we have committed. After all flagellation has been part of the tradition of monks and until recently discovered, a practice that Pope John Paul II did as a way to fight against temptations. I guess some form of self-inflicted suffering can be acceptable and this comes in various forms during lent; like skipping a meal, denying ourselves certain food that we savor, not watching TV for the whole of lent etc; basically things that make us "suffer" from being deprived of something that we are accustomed to have.

It doesn't mean that you relives your selves for the passion of the Christ during holy week are you forgiven from all of your sins. God didn't want to hurt us, thats why he gave his beloved son to redeem us from our greatest sin. So think about it, does reliving your self for the passion of the Christ will save you, or even forgive you to all of your sins?... You just need to pray, ask His forgiveness and after that don't ever make any sins as much as possible. Happy Holy week, Just Pray and Ask forgiveness and I am sure if you are sincere He will forgive you! God Bless!

Its true, even if we relive God's passion over and over again but we're sincere enough then it doesn't make any sense at all. What's more important is the sincerity and humbleness when asking for forgiveness..God Bless you too!

I respect those people who do these things. It's their way of expressing their faith. Though in my opinion, they are exaggerating. Why do they have to be nailed, just so they could be forgiven? Doing that is not a sure thing of being forgiven for your sins. You have to be committed not to do the same sins again, for your to be forgiven, but not by doing that.
