unlawful VTO (Voluntary Time Out)

I have just resigned to this previous company that I have worked with. Just recently because of the merge of the 2 top telecommunications company in the United States, there have been low volume of calls that we receive. In order for the company to save a lot of money, they have been doing VTO to a lot of teams on the floor. It is not voluntary at all. The supervisors will not give VTO to agents who have high CRT or call resolution time. We are opt to do what our supervisors tell us to do because we are all afraid that they will not regularize us. But then for me, I just resigned. We are now only working for almost 3-4 hours per day but we stay in the company for 9 hours. The VTO they give us is intermittent. We are not being paid ofcourse with the hours that we are not logged in. It really is very disappointing for a company or an account to do this as a way to save a lot of money. Please share your thoughts guys. Thanks!

VTO should be voluntary that is why it is called VTO! That is really very disappointing. It is unfair that you have to stay in the company but not being paid. We also have VTO most of the time, usually at the last 3 hours of the shift. Of course, it is voluntary in our end, they don't force us to have VTO.

I understand what you mean. Well, there are other companies that are quite stable. I think you better move before things get worse than this. I mean, having to stay in the workplace for 9 hours and only working for 4 is quite a drag already.

This is really sad... I don't have anything to say about your company since i also worked in a call center. Sometimes we also do have VTO due to low volume of calls,but...it's for the whole team.(nothing like having consideration for those who has the high CRT or AHT) But yes, working in this industry is sooooo stressful more than anyone can think of (ugh!!! metrics )

Where I live, if there isn't enough work to keep people busy, they just fire the people they don't need, and the rest work full time.
