Discovery Channel: watching and learning at the same time

there are lots of tv channels that used to air lots of shows. But I realized that its just a waste of time because you do not gain something about it. yes they will entertain you but in the end its just a show and nothing more. Try to change your channel in the Discovery channel and you will learn lots of things. They will entertain you and at the same time you will learn something about it. Science and technology is really interesting to watch especially Adam and Jamie'sThe Mythbusters and it also has lots of survival tips show just like Bear Grills of Man vs. Wild. In the end you'll find yourself more aware and less ignorant of real things in life. =)

I totally agree. this is why Discovery is one of my favorite channels, along with Nat Geo. I couldn't live without it! I like that I am getting entertained and also gaining some useful information. I'd like to see more channels like this...

Yeah! I love the Discovery Channel tune too... I think that it encourages us to love the world and explore it. I am constantly amazed at the things I can learn while watching Discovery! It is therefore a perfect name to use on this channel

I love those shows too- about animals. And yes, they are good shows because we learn something from them. Kids should watch those kinds of shows, and not just plain cartoons, but w can never stop them from watching those though.. It would be nice if there were more educational shows these days.

Thanks lady 1993. maybe they should also produce some science info shows in cartoon version. they can create some cartoon characters just like dexter in dexter's laboratory. it must be fun to watched. and admit it... adults do watch cartoon too so it would cater a lot of audiences. =)

Yes, that is a great idea... If that happens then the kids and adults can watch together.. I love Dexter too...genius, Jimmy Neutron is kind of like him too.

I have so many channels on my cable service and it's virtually impossible to watch all of them so I have my favourites and the Discovery channels are at the top of my list. I prefer the science channel as there are a lot of programmes on technology and space exploration and I'm so curious about those two areas. I think the Discovery channels are very educational and there should be a lot more channels like this in my view. I have seen Bear Grills and I like watching him also although I don't know how I would survive like he does, he's a true warrior in the survival field. I'm not afraid to admit that I am a television addict and watching tv does take a lot of my time during the evening hours. I obviously keep up with the news as well and Sky News is at the top of my list. Andrew

Hi Andrew. thanks for your insights. It is great to know that when my office mates and I are chatting while doing our design jobs, I have find myself contribute a lot of information about every topics just like how to make a super light bicycle body made from titanium alloy, ferrari and audi cars manufacturing and assembly etc. it is all because of what I have learned from watching "how do they that" of Dicovery Channel and "mega factories" of Nat Geo. I just watched but unconsciously I'm becoming smart and genius. hehehe! I like the feeling. =)

I don't watch much TV, but I have to admit I am a Deadliest Catch fan (the new season just started on Discovery Channel tonight). I never watch network TV except for the news.

Yup, this is a good TV program I used to follow certain series but now I skip most of them due to certain work. I like also Nat Geo Channel, these are good educational sources and very informative. You don't have to be a geek or science lover to be hooked on these shows, I guess you just want to know what's happening around you and maybe a possible explanation.

great insights vannyt =) Nat Geo and Discovery Channels are the only two channels that I cant live without. they are one of the my most trusted information vitamins. my mind feel great every time there is another reliable info that I have seen during the show. It also has different varieties of shows that is why its not tiring to watched. thanks for the comment. enjoy always.=)

I also watched Nat Geo channel. especially every Monday night because it is Military Monday day. I have gathered so much information about the history especially the world war 2. it shows lots of amazing clips about the invasion of adolf hilters nazi's and how the USA help there allies and defeated the Germans and the Japanese. they have also lots of good programs about animals especially their Great Migration episode. have a great mylot time. =)

The Discovery Channel is a good network. But because TV is passive, you are not going to remember or learn much. Active learning is a much better way of learning. I've watched a lot of different shows on Discovery, and I can't even remember half of them.
