Very dissatisfied at work

For 10 years I worked as a supervisor in a small company. The pay was low, no benefits, and the stress level was very high. I decided to look for another job where I would not be a supervisor, tired of the respnsibility. I found the perfect job. The work was challenging, interseting and kept me active. My co-workers were wonderful, the pay and benefits were much better than the job I left. Being a large company, I rarely saw my supervisor, so I was still able to be independent and make my own decisions. Unfortunately, as with many large companies, they "restructured" and since I was the newest hire, I was placed in a different job. The new job is very boring, very repetitive, the supervisor is a dolt, and the people I work with are boring and uninteresting. They pay and benefits are the same, so I almost feel guilty complaining when so many were laid off. I have been looking for another job, but the unemployment rate is very high where I live, and I have had no luck even finding something else to try for. How can I look at this job differently, find a way to enjoy sitting in a windowless cubicle being bored to tears? Even with the better pay and benefits, I still don't make enough and we are falling behind in everything, so it is all so discouraging.

That's tough. Try to innovate the way you do your work. When I'm bored with what I'm doing, I try to devise a new way of doing it to make it more exciting. Also, you can try setting daily goals, like today I must accomplish 3 things, or something like that. You can also try to compete statistics with your colleagues. Try to make a friendly competition out of your boring work. It will sure make things fun. We have a report in the office that most of us in my department submit late, so what our manager did was to turn it into a contest. The first to submit the report for 10 weeks will win a price. The catch was you can only start submitting the report at 6pm. We had a fun 10 weeks for that.

Sounds like you have a good manager. Mine is unimaginative and ineffectual, to say the least. I have begged for extra work, anything different than what I am doing, and all I get are empty promises. I think I will compete with myself for the best score in solitiare!

haha! That's also one way of doing it. Try learning all the games. Try the hard minesweeper game! I only finished that once! hahaha. Then when you're really good at it, start competing with each other. Haha. Try playing plants versus zombies! It's a fun way to waste away time

You should be working with the mind of getting somewhere else before resigning. It may take a long time to land on a right job, but I believe if there is a will there is a way. You can do it. Give yourself some confidence!

Well, I can relate with being dissastified due to the type of work, and feeling bored. I think personally there are a lot of places moving around people like this and even though they still keep their same wage, they feel like they're becoming complacent. Sounds like maybe even though you may not be Happy you were one of the lucky ones. I think sometimes in today's economy it can be hard to keep Happy with where you are working, but just do your Best for now until something better can come up. Just remember that sometimes you have to go thru the fire to find the light.

I know it is so tough to work in a job that you don't like. I was in the same situation once and I lost twenty pounds, lol. It was a good way to lose some weight. Luckily, I finally find another job after almost a year. May be looking at the problem from the brighter side of things will help, like telling yourself that you are lucky to still have the job while others are being layoff. Keep a constant lookout for new jobs and opportunaties. You can even try to talk to your manager (not the dolt supervisor) and see if any arrangements can be made to have you transferred back to the first position you like so much. At least give it a go and try, you never know, it may work out fine for you. Good luck.

Well that was an awful story. But can i ask you what is your previous and current job right now? Well spending 10 years in a company without any benefits and low paying wages is discouraging and also a waste of time. But still you ended into a job like you were before. Don't worry I know you'll find a suitable job for you. Opportunity will still come. Anyways I saw your profile and you had this Odesk banner. You working on Odesk?

At my previous job I was an office manager for a home health agency, in charge of legal and medicare compliance, as well as many other things. Even though the job did not pay well, I found it personally satisfying and intellectually stimulating. I loved the job, I just could no longer tolerate the owner of the company and his rude behavior. I took a job in the front office of a medical clinic located in a hospital. I loved the job, but then they transferred me to central registration for the hospital, where I now work as a clerk, doing the same thing over and over for 8 hours in a windowless cubicle. I have been working on oDesk for around 5 years. Feel free to message me if you have questions, and thank you for responding to my rant :)

I am facing a similar problem , i am tired of my job which is so stressful and time consuming that it hardly leaves me with time for myself or my family .. since financial crunch is what stops us from taking the big break that we so desperately need , i would suggest you to make best of the situation for now by these few tips 1. Every morning do some calming relaxing exercises , which will ensure you the 'Me time' 2. Try to fret over things over which you have control , forget about things that you cannot control . 3. Take one step at a time , problems become much easier when we take baby steps and do not mull too much over the big picture 4. Plan your office work , coz when your brain knows that it has only 4 more hours of work to do and then its family or fun time , its helps you work faster and you'll no longer think it to be boring.

I am sorry to hear that, but at least you got a job and still paying your bill right? A lot of people are not as lucky as you are, and they are falling behind their bills and spend on their credit card from day to day. That is scary, don't you know that? So, keep on working on it and keep on looking another job, until you find something much better.
