the beggar and her dog

Yesterday, after eating breakfast, my boyfriend had a significant left over of the burger that he ate. We then decided to keep the burger so that we can give it to a beggar along the streets. When we went along Faura, we decided to give the burger to the fist beggar that we saw.The first one was this woman who had a dog with her. Now this woman was actually one of the permanent beggars in Faura. I would actually see her everyday with her dog, just lying around. Anyway, I somewhat have a respect for this woman because once I saw her wiping off her dog's poop along the street. Normally, Filipinos, yet alone beggars do not do such a thing. They would've normally just let the poop be there. This just goes to show that people don't have to be educated or rich to be decent. Going to the burger now, when we gave the woman the morsel of food my respect for her shot up straight when she gave the dog a piece of the morsel before she ate a piece herself. Talk about selflessness. Whew. Even though she almost had nothing, she was not selfish at all. I hope people could be more like her, no, ofcourse not on being a beggar but on being selfless and not needing a reason to be decent.

Though the woman is a beggar, she still has some values in her. I think, it only shows too that poverty doesn't necessarily make everyone bad. She was so selfless, that she did give some parcel of the burger to her dog first. It only means too, that she regards her dog as her companion all through out her life.

Your topic was nice so i commented. A nice topic for a newbie like you. So you see, the dog acts as his husband after all, who takes care of her and vice versa.

Hi MAMA! haha.. so nice that you commented on the discussion that I made. Anyway, I agree with what you said and I think that the woman really does consider her dog to be her companion throughout life. I think the dog thinks the same way because the dog just sits with her all day and is really well-behaved. Sometimes, I see the woman getting up to let her dog pee on a nearby tree.

Yes we need more people like her. Me? I fight even with my son over food. Horrid!!

And I forgot to add that I like that she cleans up after her dog. I definitely want more people like her.

Haha.. momof3kids, you made me laugh with what you said about fighting with your sons over food. Anyway, of course it's understandable that we struggle to survive sometimes. In the world today, it's very difficult if you don't know how to fend for yourself. Still, let's take time to be generous sometimes. :)

A begger is a person who have heart and soul. She was unfortunate because she is a begger. She know how to take care of cleanliness around her because she is a responsible person. She has nothing in her life accept a dog. If I saw a person lke that, I'll send her to a Welfare department for help or to the Old Fork Home so that she can have a chance to stay at a clean place, wearing a clean clothes and eat a good food. The dog will have a good place too.

Unfortunately, here in the Philippines there aren't that many places like that. Even if there were, it'd probably be teeming with a lot of beggars and other homeless people.

Hi. ohsodianne. Welcome to myLot! That was a very wonderful story to hear about! I am so glad that she took her dog into consideration rather than her own self! This is a great act of not being selfish. But selfless. Many people are not this way at all in life, they tend to think of themselves before they think of others. This is just not fair at all. Some people are just all for themselves, which is very wrong. May God bless this woman and her dog too! I hope that she can get off of the streets as a beggar and move into a place of her own. She deserves it for being so caring.

I am glad to have shared this story. I hope too someday that she could move into a place of her own. If we become as selfless as she is, she may have a place of her own someday.

I enjoyed reading your post and I honor you for sharing this and for being generous as well to the woman and her dog. It's a simple story but it will definitely make an impact on people who will read it. Sometimes we also learn a thing or two from people who we don't even know. This woman that you encountered with her dog will serve as a lesson and a reminder for me of being selfless to others. The only sad thing about this is that we seldom see people like her nowadays. I hope that a lot of people will practice this act of kindess.

I'm glad you liked the post. But remember that we don't need to see people like her to be inspired. We can be an inspiration ourselves in so many ways. :)

Wow, if I see that same beggar in my place, I would be bringing and giving her food regularly. I really have a soft spot for all animals and I admire that woman beggar for taking care of her pet in spite of her condition. When we see people in this situation I think we should all be open to give our help.

I agree with what you said. Like George Clooney said after the Haiti earthquake, "we all have responsibility to take care of everyone, especially those who have no capability to do so." Unfortunately for me, I've moved out of my old dormitory and will be living far away from Faura. I just wish other people would take their time to give morsels of food to her and her dog.

She taught you something. See, these people are still worth something in there lives. They teach us what we take for granted in life. They help us open up our eyes to reality. Thanks for this message. This kind of thing wakes me up too. Have a nice day.

I believe dog is man's best friend. I supposed that beggar found a real best friend in her dog so she gives that kind of treatment to it. That dog perhaps has shown her faithfulness and watchfulness all the time they've been together on the street.

It has been rightly said that never think someone lower than you or higher than you.Even though she was a beggar she was better than most grown up educated , rich people.Even after being so rich and educated some people have no compassion for animals and here this woman even after being a beggar shares her food with dog. Thanks for sharing this wonderful story with us.

There are a lot of these in our country today! I feel pity for them.. It keeps me think what if I am like them? I am not rich or my family but we do help people like this as much as we can.. Especially my Mom.. She has the heart for them! If she have something, she'll give! In our time today, we should all not be selfish! Let's help each and everyone and let's make this world a better place!

I've been thinking a lot about beggars since I entered college since there are a lot of them in Padre Faura. Sometimes I think their case is very unfortunate because it was not their choice to be born that poor. I guess we can help them by saving our leftovers and giving these to them. Even though it was help for maybe one or two beggars, at least you helped. :) We all need to look after each other, especially those who have no capability to do so.

Very interesting. The way of sharing the food with the dog by the woman has thrilled me. In this material world, the generosity shown by a woman towards an animal is very heartening.

What a wonderful story. Did you stay and chat with her for awhile? I think a lot of people can learn from what she did. It is interesting to note that she has nothing and yet can manage at least one single act of selflessness that a lot of people struggle to do on a regular basis. Thanks for sharing and for the reminder that there are still some decent people left in the world. Not so much needing a reason to be decent - but most people only do a kind thing for a stranger if there is something in it for them.

Oh no, unfortunately we were quite in a hurry because we had to go to the registrar's office. But we really shouldn't lose hope, people like this woman make me feel like there's still good in people.
