I hate my car, what car problems do you have?

I have an old mitsubishi and for its age it's a really great car. But now it has a problem of draining its battery. I'm not sure if it does this on its own, or if my boyfriend, who also drives the car, leaves the headlights on by accident. He did this once, so it could be that he keeps doing it again. Has your car battery ever drained for some other reason? What car problems do you have?

It will Drain overnight if the Lights are Left on All Night. You need to Tell Your Boyfriend to make sure the headlights are Off. Age will cause the Battery to not Last. You will have Problems in 3 to 5 Years based upon the Quality of the Battery Purchased. Any Lights not Working or any Device not Working as this will cause a Short and the Battery to Drain by the Next Morning

Could the lights turn on by themselves for some reason?

Yes you can have some Later Car Models that have Sensors that will Switch On the Headlights in a Dark Area like a Tunnel. With Age these Censors can become Defective. You can have a Switch also that Control the Headlights that may have been Moved to the On Position by Accident or that Switch can be Defective with Age to. It maybe Located on the Left Side of the Steering Wheel or the Dashboard. It may have a Light Bulb Symbol on it. If You or Your BF can Find it See if it is in the On Position and Switch it back to the Off Position. See if that Works or Consult the Owners Manual if You have One for further Information.

ok, also I noticed that the green wire on the steering wheel is really loose, almost completely detached because it's old I guess. Is that related to the problem or is it another problem?

I had a problem with an old car a few years ago. My wife kept complaining that the battery was flat and that she could not go anywhere. By the time I got home from work to test it, the car would start just fine. This went on for a few weeks only every now and then, until I asked an auto electrician about it. He said that when batteries are old, they can drop a cell and then they become so weak that they are affected by the cold. As it was winter at the time (we are sub tropical, so it was not that cold) the battery had been cold overnight, so it would not start. By the time I got home, it had been in the sun all day and would start. I changed the battery over with a wrecked car that we had at work and the problem was solved!

Hello sasha kiddo. I wish i could bring more to this subject but my major car problem is it missing altogether - yes, i don't have one. Also i don't have a licence... what good would that do for me if i don't have what to drive.

well, at least you don't have to worry about spending money. do you live in a city? I love public transportation, wish it was more easily available here. Buses here are fine but they take a while, and the stops are pretty far away as well.

Yes, it was the alternator. You might have it looked at. The regulator could be bad. Best Wishes!

Thanks for the info, I don't know anything about cars.. wouldn't want to get ripped off. I'll have to read more about alternators and regulators.
