Telemarketers are ANNOYING!

I recently got about 10 calls from telemarketers persuading me to apply for a credit card. Well being a student, there was no need for it. Which makes me wonder, how do they get hold of your number? Do they look through yellow pages and randomly spit out a list of numbers? Also, what would you do to annoying telemarketers who insist on annoying you? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

HI, have you give out your number to apply for some free stuff or something that you used to apply and put down ur number... cuz that how they get ur number. I use cell phone for over 10 years and I never get a single phone call from telemarketing. However, my work place is retail store and they always call and call... sometimes I have to hang up with no reason cuz I dont want to spend too much time on the phone, and they are so annoying, just like you said

Guess I must have done some surveys and stuff along the way.. Oh wells i think the more annoying ones are those that don't take the hint and keep spamming your phone with calls till you call back and ask them to A: shut up or B: give in and buy whatever they're selling.

search for the number on http://callercenter.com. You may not be the only one who's been bothered by these pesky telemarketers, people often have helpful advice there

This is usually what I do too if the call is to my mobile phone. Because I don't give my number to people I don't know so if it's a number that's not in my address book, I don't answer it. But if it's a call to our home phone, I have to answer it. =P And funny that I'm on this discussion right now because I answered a call from the phone company just now. Some recording again. *roll eyes* I hung up. =P

Caller I.D.? Do you have it? I know it is very annoying, I just pick up the phone and don't even say hello I just hang up as soon as I pick it up!! Eventually maybe they will stop I get the same calls everyday about 7 a.m. from the same number on the caller I.D. and then again at night, I just keep hanging up on them and hope they will stop calling but has not happened yet I think they are just bored and have nothing else better to do and like annoying people!!! Sad but true it is like a never ending thing.

Haha. Well, you are right. They could be quite annoying. Calls from telemarketers are not very common for me though. There was one credit card company/bank that called a lot but that was because I did sign up for something then. I was blinded by this freebie they were giving away (hahaha), and the reassurance that I didn't actually have to push through with getting the credit card if I didn't want to... So in your case, they must have gotten your number from those surveys and stuff that you mentioned. The annoying thing is that even after I already told them I've made up my mind and did not want their credit card, they still kept on calling. In the subsequent calls I told them directly that they called me already several times and I really do not want their credit card. By the way, I learned my lesson and did not sign up for any other credit card after that, no matter what freebie they offered. Hahaha =P Another bunch of calls that was a bit annoying was from the phone company itself. It was about some promo, and it was just a recording. The problem is: they called several times... something like 3 or 4 calls in a spam of say... 2 hours or so. And it was the exact same recording each time. Seriously, don't they have it on record somewhere that they've already called our number? *roll eyes* My advice is: just be direct with them. Tell them thanks but you're not interested. And then goodbye. That's it! =P
