Paranormal Experiences. Whats your story?

Growing up, we are basically conditioned to not believe in ghosts. That things you may have seen or heard were simply "the wind, a dog, etc." However, as we get older we sometimes find ourselves in particular situations where there are no logical explanations for a specific occurrence. Many of us seem ashamed or unwilling to admit to some strange experiences we may have encountered in our lives and a lot of us never tell others about what happened. I for one have had some odd experiences in my day that have literally changed my way of life. When I was about 16 or 17 years old, I was dabbling into the occult (no not worshipping satan), for some strange reason i was "interested" in demonology and learning about the occult (this at a time where i was deviating from religious beliefs) Well as things progressed, i began having odd things happen to me. It started with odd dreams of being possessed by some kind of demonic entity. At the time i just shrugged it off and didnt put too much emphasis on connecting the dots between the dreams and my interest in the occult. So one night me and my friend Sunny were hanging out at my house. We had plans to "sneak" out at around 12. So we were hanging out in the garage sitting at the table just b.s'in about random stuff when suddenly i got cut off by a voice. I immediately stopped talking so i could hear and it was unlike anything i ever heard before. It was a deep, gutteral voice speaking in some kind of language. I thought i was hallucinating until i looked at my friend Sunny and his jaw was literally dropped, eyes wide open in a state of shock. We just looked at each other without saying anything as if to want to say "Did you hear that?" We were so scared we didnt even sneak out that night. Strangely, or not, After that experience I got more in touch with my religious side and since then I have not had any dreams or crazy experiences. So finally my question to you all is, what paranormal experience have you had that has stuck with you to this very day?

I think its a little the other way around, that we're conditioned to label things that go bump in the night as being paranormal. When I was a kid I was always so scared of ghosts and things creeping up on me. I'd have nightmares every night, and thats not a exaggeration, I'd be awake at midnight after a scary dream every night and my parents would have to calm me down. Since I started watching a few scary movies though once I reached about 17 or so, I've gradually gotten de-sensitised to it, and nothing particularly scares me now. I started watching the american series ghosthunters, and whilst I know its probably mostly or fully staged, I cant help thinking 'what if?' and I'd quite like one of these days to have a paranormal experience. My parents told me about something that happened to them one day, but they used to lie to me all the time and make up stories, so I think it was just a lie. They said when they got home one day, they noticed a funny smell in the air. When they were trying to find out where it was coming from, they said the smell kept on moving around from area to area in the house, apparently it was like rotten eggs. So they decided to leave it for a while. Later on, my dad was in the kitchen making a pot of tea, and he heard a noise behind him. When he turned around he said a plate on the side of the kitchen surface actually lifted a little off the surface and was then apparently flung onto the floor. He said there was no way it had fallen, and that when it did fall on the floor instead of falling downwards, it went at an angle like it had been thrown and ended up 6 feet away from the counter or so. Anyway, thats about it. I wish I'd had some kind of experience though. Its easier to have proof that something exisists than to prove it doesnt.

Not necessarily. Although we are all inherently instilled with the emotion of fear, we automatically dismiss things as being explainable. This is a psychological defense mechanism we use to not worry about things or keep us from being scared. Let's put it this way. The fact is, people that don't believe have usually never been in those situations. In your case, I really hope you dont have a paranormal experience. Dealing with spirits isn't something to be taken lightly and could seriously affect your life in a negative way. I never "looked forward" or chose to have a paranormal experience. It happened, most likely because i was naive and delving into things i shouldnt have and thats when bad things happened. In contrast, its actually easier to not believe in things such as the afterlife. After all, why believe in "silly" things such as ghosts rather than have a scientific explanation for every and all things. I think most people would choose the latter.
