Holy Friday gloom in our country...

Tomorrow, Holy Friday, there will be general gloom in our place as people observe Holy Friday, Christ's death on the cross. My experience since childhood has never changed. During Holy Fridays, our place becomes very quiet and sad. All business establishments and offices are closed and even bus and tryke drivers don't ply the streets. You can actually walk or sleep in the middle of the road without fear of being hurt. That is why on this day, people are either at home or in church. We need to stock up on food as all the stores are closed and you don't want to go hungry the whole day.

What country do you live in? Seems like a very solemn day for you guys...we usually go to church for the passion, fast, and abstain but that's about it.

Not so much anymore, at least not in Marikina. When I was a child, Good Friday was like punishment to us - no TV, nowhere to go but church and service at 3PM on a summer day. I went biking on Good Friday and was able to get a cup of coffee in McDonald's (which I recommend by the way). As I rode around town, I saw several open establishments.
